Brakes... (Again)
« on: January 31, 2012, 07:33:23 PM »
Ok.. So I know pretty much nothing about any mechanical stuff to do with cars, so I would like some simple advice on brakes!

At the moment my 500 is completely standard.. And I think the brakes are rubbish! Is there any cheap(ish) changes I can make to improve them?

Like I said before.. I know nothing about this stuff, so it may seem like a daft question! And please keep your answers on terms a simpleton can understand

THANKS!!

Change the brake fluid and add braided hoses.

Good pads make a massive difference along with the above.
Try ferrodo or mintex.

Cheers for the quick replies!

So I'm guessing I can just buy better pads for the standard brakes? (I was serious when I said I know nothing about this!)

the A500 stops better than a cooper S from 60mph to dead

You can always upgrade pads/fluid and lines for a better feel.

The brembo kit is the one if you have a spare £1,500.

Yes, standard pads are fine for daily road use but if you start pushing it hard you will find that upgraded pads will stop the car better.
Have a look in the TMC motorsport section on the forum.
You will be able to find Pads, lines and fluid in there.
different brake pads vary in price from £50 a pair to £180 a pair, so depends how far you want to go and how heavy you plan on braking..

They are  :)

There's loads of different compound Ferodo pads, and the DS2500s are recommended for track use only, but are road legal.

I've got them front and rear, with race fluid and HEL lines. Stops on the proverbial sixpence!

They aren't regulation 90 approved. so cannot be used on the road on cars registered after 2001  ;D
