Forge Front Mounter Intercooler
« on: February 01, 2012, 03:49:25 AM »
Hello everyone

Forge say on the website that their front mounted intercooler improves torque and Horsepower, however my mechanic say that a front mounted intercooler will definitely reduce low end torque (something to do with the length of piping and air temperature compared to the factory dual intercooler setup)

I am wondering if the high end hp gains are worth making this mod and if there will actually be drops in torque figures.

I am running a standard turbo with forge actuator and TMC box

thanks!

Don't forget it'll sit in front of the radiator and steal all it's air. Engines like to be cool as well as turbos.

Be very interest to hear if Daron has fitted one for a customer yet.

I have heard that bigger intercoolers can add lag and move all the power into a bigger single hit like a old skool big power turbo...

Nothing, Nothing, Nothing, Nothing, Still Nothing BANG all the power in one hit!

I dont think the pipework would be too much of an issue as I imagin there's quite abit of pipework running a split setup to be honest but I can see Hippos concern about cooling, as there isnt much of the rad on show if any in the shots Ive seen of all 3 intercoolers I know about (Forge, G-Tech and the one TMC sells), think there might be at least one more.

As for gains, I read a issue of Fast Car where Forge had their demo car featured (Shockingly bad mag and worse still was the feature) which at the time was sporting:
Forge Induction Kit with Silicone elbow
Forge BOV
Forge Actuator
Forge Front mounted intercooler
and remapped
They claimed it made 190bhp on standard car and exhaust, which I guess is possible, but 190bhp ish is about the limit of the standard turbo so Im not sure if a full exhaust would have brought much to the table, still when you think about it GTTunings stg2 kit basically uses a slightly altered TMC, uprated actuator and sometimes induction kit to get 180/190bhp ish so maynot be too far from the trueth
