Getting Koni's fitted. . .
« on: January 13, 2012, 01:33:03 PM »
Booking my car in for this today, they've advised that i'll need a wheel alignment doing as well which adds another £100 to the price :(

Is this correct? do i HAVE to have this done? it's going to cost me about £850 in total if so.

Also i've seen people mention these Coupe bump stops, is it necessary to get these fitted as well or will the Koni's on there own make a big difference?

Cheers guys

Well I suppose you don't have to but you'd be best off to. After all, eating through your tyres in an uneven fashion will hardly be cheaper.  :thumb:

Better, possibly although that is subjective.

Cheaper? Really?  ???

i agree that not everyone has the opinion that they are better then konis but yes they are cheaper if he is spending £850 for the full setup

£100 for wheel alignment  :o

a) You must re-align wheels after modifying anything to the suspension setup.
b) £100 for alignment is quite steep.
c) All the prices that I heard from Abarth dealers to install the Koni included the alignment

B14 on a regular price are not really cheaper.
Daron sells them for £600 (including VAT, plus shipment) install, align is coming to the same price than above Konis

I paid a man £100 after having my suspension fitted, but that included alignment and camber, front and rear (which required shims on the hubs).

The Bilsteins are cheaper, the list price of Konis is around £850 without fitting, if the dealer is fitting them for free thats why the price is close, if you were paying for fitting then the Koni's would be nearer a grand.

Bilsteins have their own warranty. As for resale after 3-4 years i don't think either of them will gain you much if any extra on a trade in.  In fact most extras you put on a car don't, as the dealer will happily tell you it makes it more sellable but not worth any extra trading in, I found this out trading in my Beemer which had professional sat nav and elec leather heated seats, all dealers just quoted book value without the extras.

Sorry. I'll post in the grump thread. It is beyond me now why anyone would mess around with their warranty on these cars ever......

Come on now your not a grump  ;) I'm just saying my experience trading in cars is that all the extras in the world really aren't worth anything trading in with a dealer, they may certainly get you more in a private sale if you get the right customer  :)

The price i was given by bauer millet, is £747 that is for fitting and includes VAT. think it was £80 plus VAT for the alignment which made it roughly £96

Based on the above sounds like i'm getting a good deal!

Reason i didn't consider the bilsteins is they are supposed to be a bit harsher where as the Koni's make the standard car a little less crashy from what i've read on here. Which makes a difference to me because there are speed bumps everywhere on the way to work and they're really starting to get on my nerves. Also as SJH pointed out there's the warranty on a 9 month old car to consider too :)

SG petch quoted me almost £1100 without the wheel alignment and said they couldn't even get the Koni's for less than £850 . . .
