New Exhaust
« on: January 29, 2012, 09:18:22 PM »
Just had a new custom built cat back system installed from Top Gear in Hayes.

On booking the install I had a consultation with Taz who went through a number of options with me. This included tail pipe design and importantly for me, the type of sound I was after. I explained how I wanted a nice deep bass at idle but really wanted an aggressive sound once the revs are up and the car is being pushed a bit. Taz went through some video samples so they were sure as to what I wanted.

A few days later I took the car down. I stayed for the install and it took about 4 hours.

Once completed I noticed how much better it looked underneath the car compared to the standard exhaust. The clean stainless steel is a bit sexy! It comes a a lifetime guarantee.

On starting the car up it does have nice bass warble at idle. Just enough to know that its not a standard unit. It really comes alive once you start moving and pushing the car. Backfires so much more (you can backfire it at will if you drive it a certain way) that the standard unit. Its got a real snarl like a V6.

Overall I am very happy and glad that I went down the custom build route. Money was not an issue for me and I was looking at much more expensive systems on the market but the sound was not absolutely to my liking. A friend of mine with a Nissan GTR had his system done by Top Gear and suggested I check them out. The price was very reasonable and it just goes to show that spending less does not necessarily mean you get an inferior product!

I will upload a video of the system on You Tube so the sound can be appreciated. Will update on the link to this once done.

Now for the suspension.....

What layout is the system?

Im assuming its fresh pipework from the downpipe back as you didnt mention a change of cat.

Im a big fan of the straight through 'GroupN' style rear sections, I still stand by the fact Cliffs GroupN rear section which is just 2.5" pipework into two 4" tailpipes sounds better and certainly pops'n'bangs better than my slighty more expensive... (lol) G-Tech turbo 3"system (Grrrrrrrrrr!)

Look foward to seein n hearin sound audio/video clips :thumb:
