Second boost gauge - questions
« on: January 29, 2012, 09:59:42 AM »
So its well accepted that the TMC box and Im guessin the G-Tech box is the same alters the signal to the factory boost gauge, also the factory gauge takes its reading differently to a traditional boost gauge which (Ithink) takes its reading from a vacume from the manifold.

I know Hippo has fitted a second boost gauge, has anyone else? Basically Im just trying to work out where/what you attach/fix the gauges line under the bonnet ie do you have to fit a T-piece into a existing vacume pipe?

Any advice would be welcomed, any pic's would be legendary :thumb:

Your welcome to come to me  if you want. I know your not far and I can show you how I did mine. You will need a T Piece and you will need a couple of extra feet of vacuum hose if you get GTT's.

Du know what, I might have to take you up on that offer one weekend :thumb:

Just out of interest tho, did the T-piece come with the gauge? As Ive been looking at some gauges and some are coming out cheaper than the GTTuning one but cant see on some of them if they are supplied with fitting kits like the GTT item.

The T-piece in included. I also replaced the entire length of quite soft and flexible hose with rigid stuff.
The cable ties are probably not needed but I went a bit belt and braces.

It's an absolute bugger. Come round to me if you get one as It's a lot easier the second time around. You won't need to any of the recommended drilling if you do it my way. ;)

Your a Legend :thumb: I'll have another look around and see if there is any that I like the look of and be in touch.

Did yours need a power sourch to tap into or simply run by vacume pressure?

If I do get one would a Sat/Sun be ok with you? and whats your tipple Beer or a bottle of wine :D

Mine's just connected to the vacuum . You can power a light too but you will need the help of an auto-electrician for that.
I also felt the 'sticking down' to the dash with silicone method is a bit crap too so I turned the base into a clamp and bolted it through the dash via the little hole exposed when the stock pod was taken out. I bought a plastic disk from Garmin so it all looks pretty.

Right - Vacume only :thumb: gotcha

Its suprising how many of the boost gauge's out there need the power as they are smoked and unsmoke or light up once the ignition is switched on.

Ill refine my search lol

Might have to get myself an invite to this mini meet, I'd like to get a proper boost gauge in the AGP but don't have a clue where to mount it!

I fitted one in my AGP.  I'll take a couple of pics when I remember and post them up  :thumb:

If there is one thing I think Abarth left out on the Puntos (both of them) is a propper boost gauge, although I can kinda see why they would leave it out what with trying to create an more grown up feel to the car.

Look forward to seein the pics

I was lookin sunday morning at gauges, gona have another look tonight and maybe buy one on a whim :D
