Standard no more
« on: September 08, 2009, 09:42:36 PM »
My car is winging it's way to G-Tech on the 16th to get the 1.6L G-Tech GP/R kit fitted. It'll take about a month to do all the mods, and I can't wait!!

On top of that I've found a source for a KW Variant 3 fully adjustable suspension so should be good for road and track.

I'll keep this thread updated just in case anyone is interested in following the conversion. Full details of the GP/R kit are on the G-Tech thread.

Finally a picture of the car and possibly the last time he'll be standard again (!)

As Keith Richards tells it, Jones came up with the name "The Rollin' Stones" (later with the 'g') while on the phone with a venue owner. "The voice on the other end of the line obviously said, 'What are you called?' Panic. The Best of Muddy Waters album was lying on the floor—and track one was 'Rollin' Stone Blues'".

Woah, that's a long time to be without your motor.
How long do dealers usually take to do the SS kit?

Adrian Flux - they insure anything. Actually, they don't charge for mods that don't add BHP. So if you want to add seats, brakes, shocks etc no impact on your policy cost. If you add 10% power they charge 10% more. But not so much of course if you double the power, and a bit more.. cough

SS kit would surely only be a few days. They will have to take the engine out of course to do these mods.

I found out they also have a G-Tech light program where they will strip the car out, put lightweight buckets in, lexan windows, change the gearstick setup and a few other bits and pieces if you want to take the car on the track. If I get more info I'll post it up here for the track warriors.

Sounds mental, to be fair that's far more work involved than the Esseesse kit!

Look forward to hearing its progress.

Good luck... its going to be a monster!! Its a lot of wedge but then fully drive in drive out packages don't come cheap :) Do they take photos of the project as part of the service?

 8) 8)

Edited to add - the guys at Sanspeed will also do a built motor, clutch etc etc etc pretty much as G-Tech if you ask them nicely and they are only in Surrey :) It isn't on the website but Graham(?) was talking about it at Gaydon

It is on the web site, you gotta hoke about for it.  Â£7000 inc vat for 270bhp.   Not too much detail about what all is added though. :thumb:

Just a quick edit to say I had a look over the Sanspeed site and it does seem reasonable value.  I'd consider the Performance Pack 2, TB Milltek, Induction Kit, Filter and Remap, giving 180bhp which shouldn't put a massive strain on the cars components.
£2000 in all(plus my ferry to the mainland!).

High-jack over. ;D
