Having owned a 197 there is no doubt that an A500ss is as quick below 80 from a standing start and quicker from a rolling start due to it's torque advantage. TMC better still.

Clio much better ride and handling balance, particulary on bumpy roads. Would like to try a Koni A500 car though.

However on the road you'd need to be either very talented, or crazy to make much of a difference on straights or corners in either car.

On track the Clio has better brakes, adjustability and high speed composure meaning quite a bit quicker.

They are about 170bhp with diesel amount of torque, but they are fat and heavy

I can confirm that the golf GTD is rapid. My dad owns one, not quick off the mark but mid range they are v quick. I had trouble keeping up with him in our mk5 GTI! Maybe it was just the 140bhp GT?

Could have been. Ironically, just now whilst i was waiting in the car park to pick my bro's GF up, a blue Clio (172 i think) came in followed by a MG ZR. They eyed up the Abarth and as i left they followed. I floored it away and the Clio struggled to catch me. Then as i pulled onto the main road, he pulled out as if to overtake but mine pulled away again! Fun  ;D
