Commuting??
« on: October 17, 2010, 09:53:19 AM »
Hi guys

As of next Feb, I've got to start working 30 miles away from home, rather than the 5 minute bus ride at the moment!  So, my Abarth is going to get a wapping extra 13000+ a year extra mileage.

Does anyone else commute in theirs?  If, so, whats it like as an every day car and can you get at least 35mpg out of it?

Only had mine now 6 months and done 1800 miles in it!

Cheers guys
Carl

I commute in my AGP between various company sites and 35mpg is obtainable. If you added a TMC box you would certainly an increase in economy.

I do 65 miles a day in mine 5 days as week . . .

from the 32.5 mile trip there is roughly 10 miles A road and 20 miles motorway.

I seem to get about 40 mpg on a daily basis. I turn sport mode off when cruising on the motorway as i don't need to have the extra poke. But on the sweeping A roads sport mode and TTC are always utilised!

I have had mine since January and have covered just over 14500. Other than the usual its gonna cost more in tyres, insurance and your going to have to service it more i find it fine to commute in, in fact . . . i actually enjoy my drive to work and my drive home and look forward to it.

If i had a boring [insert vag mobile diesel] car i think i would start hating my job due to the commute involved . . .

I actually toyed with getting an elise to drive to and from work in.
Its here . . .

personally id prefer to use the car and get as much miles as i could

rather than like me sit on a drive way 4-5 days a week just over 5k in just 11 months seems a real waste, so get it used its all about enjoyment  :thumb:

I have been driving my wifes A500 for the last week. 14 miles each way in traffic that is crawling for half of it. 40mpg possible, and a lot safer than on the motor bike.

Slippery slope, Martin.  Have done about 10x what I've done on the bike in the Abarth since I got it.  The car is now my daily drive, the bike is a treat.

40+mpg is easy if its a decent speed commute rather than crawling through traffic.

i agree about getting the use out of it though, mine has just under 7k after over 18mnths cos i work from home - but at least my journeys are all pleasure ones rather than a work commute  :)

I have a 37 mile drive to work in my AGP if I start work early or finish very late managed to get around 35mpg in mine only just put a TMC box on see how it goes but I hate putting mileage on the car just for work so may have to get a work only car and have the Abarth for fun.

I use my A500 for commuting. Trip computer has the average mpg down as 37.5mpg, so it's not too bad. The mph is probably higher for most of the trip, it's the last mile or so when I hit rush-hour town traffic that kills it.

Luckily for me, there aren't any speed-bumps on my commute route. Hell, there are more speed-bumps driving to my local Tesco which is less than half a mile away than there are driving all the way to work. But if there are lots on your commute, then you might be less happy. The suspension ruddy hates speed bumps.

But, er, yeah. You should get better than 35mph out of it without too much trouble.
