Any one on here?

Yes, one of our members contacted John and has arranged to take their car down.  I don't want to say who in case they're not comfortable with that, but I'm sure they'll fill us in afterwards.

They have used my cars before for different articles, and I am sure they will be up for it too.

If you don't mind me being nosy, what cars have you had in AI Barry?

I knew one of you would be able to help out!

John originally asked if they could borrow my wife's but as it is not an EsseEsse and they are comparing it with a 154hp hatch, I told him it had to be an EsseEsse or nothing, so pointed him in this direction.

Well done whoever you are.

I agree with Ad, you have great taste in motors.

Hopefully I'll be able to afford a leggy Gransport in a few years. Something about that car makes me want it so badly.

Definately need an old GTV as well.

Were your Maseratis in the feature they ran on the V8s a while back?

I have done afew pieces at the back on Readers Cars. The first one featured the 599, GTV and Panda 100hp. All have gone now. The 599 was swapped for a Carrera GT, probably the wildest car I have owned. That's gone too, it was back to Masers as it is recession time! The first article was on my yellow Gransport, then the Fuji White Granturismo S. And of course now the A500, which has just been upgraded by DMS to 197bhp and 210 lbs ft torque. I have to say that I have had as much fun sorting out the little Abarth than buying the more exoric cars. The Abarth is also such fun on our choked up roads. There's a debate now, supercar versus Abarth 500 esseesse!!!!

Hi....... it was me who went to Paris with my esseesse.

Just arrived back this afternoon after doing about 750 miles all up....excellent weekend

When I get sorted I shall put up some photos and a little info about the trip, without stealing the thunder of the great guys from Evo who shortly will be publishing an 8/10 page article comparing the Renault Clio 190, Cooper S, 500 esseese and the new Citroen DS.

Give us a scoop then - how did it stack up?! I'm surprised they didn't want an AGP SS for that - I would say it's closer class wise to the Clio. But with the 500 being more popular I can see why the choose it.

the full report will be in Evo in about a month...but a I can give a brief report on what was a very memorable trip.
We met up with the Evo Clio Cup200 at Eurotunnel on Thursday evening and travelled together to Compiegne about 30 miles north of Paris. Next morning it was pouring and we met up with the Cooper S guys who had been off to collect the Citroen DS from Paris.
After a quick espresso we set of to find a base for the day. In a car park in a huge forest we cleaned off the cars for the start of the photo shoot....interiors, badges, wheels etc. Then the driving began....up and down the same set of roads all day...and it was still pouring.
The roads were an excellent test for each of the cars...long bumpy straights, smooth straights, sweeping corners, tight corners, offcamber corners and one 270degree lefthander which nearly caught all of us the first time!
We ran singly, in twos and as a group of four...and each of us drove each car.
What was the conclusion...well thats really for the guys from Evo to say. All the cars had flaws, but in my view there was one car which stood out head and shoulders above the rest...sorry it wasnt the Abarth. The esseesse was great fun and in terms of power and delivery it ranked with the best but the damping problem really came to the fore on these roads and let it down...also the driving position which in my opinion is about 2" too high means you sit up whereas in each of the others you sit down in the car. It wasnt the worst of the group....one car which I had great expectations of had real serious powerd delivery issues...torque steer, traction control, spinning wheels...a real handful. ...continued after photos

..yes a real handful...it was red! The Citroen was something of a revelation...despite what I thought were fairly bland looks in the flesh it had a lot going for it. The test car had a wild yellow and black interior...wouldnt have been my choice though.
At about 4pm it was still raining, the Citroen had to be returned to Paris and the rest of us deserved a beer so we set of to a cafe to reflect on the day.
Thanks to the guys from Evo...I didnt know much about the mag before but now Im something of a fan!
more photos ...and the last lot will be on the next post

Good write up of your trip without giving too much away.

Its a shame that suspension on the A500 is not right, maybe it would have done better.

Unless Fiat sort it out in a mark 2 version, it down to the aftermarket.

sounds like you had a great time out there. I'd agree though even the AGP is a bit wobbly in the corners seems like its the flaw in both cars. BUT im happy with it as I dont go racing every day I drive mine to work over things like speed bumps and potholes and the bouncy suspension dosnt give me a head ache. like it did in the 1 hour long test drives I had a while back in the mini cooper s and the clio sport 197.

But likeI said sounds like you had fun and I'll be buying Evo nexy month. manage to steal the front cover with the abarthisti sticker?
