explaining the SS kit to insurers gave us a taste, you are getting the full treatment :thumbd:

don't know anyone who regrets the hassle once they get to live with the car :thumb:

It might be worth visiting a price comparison site? As daft as it sounds, i was getting a few quotes for the A500 the other day, when it asked me to select a vehicle, there was a choice, from Abarth 500 135 HP, esse esse, Convertible and yes believe it or not 695 Tributo Ferrari was there too!

Worth a go?

Have done this but falls over when you are asked for the registration number :'(

These two insurers that I got pointed to today will insure based on just the chassis number so the choice of supplier is very limited......

I am sure I WILL really enjoy the car and this aggro will soon be forgotten but for abarth themselves they should really be doing something to prevent others having to go through this rigmarole otherwise it is hard to treat them seriously in terms of customer service. Frankly I'd be embarrased if it was my company.
Bottom line is they (abarth)have taken an approach that is easier and lower cost for abarth but is a total pain for customers. As a process it is worse than ryanair so far.
If it wasnt for the polite (but stuck in the middle) people of the dealership and the lack of a better car from a competitor I would have walked away by now.

I know that the people I have dealt with have insured the car using the VIN number as there is no reg no.

Most Insurance companies should be aware that as the car is an import they need to raise cover using the Chassis (VIN) number until it has been registered and then their details can be updated once registration process is complete.

Depending on what part of the world you are in the DVLA process can be as long as 10 weeks!!  Just depends how fussy your local DVLA offices are!!

Hope this helps you if you are still struggling

So now to get it registered.......

Praying the DVLA process goes quickly

Hi I got in a similar situation when I bought my Zero a Cento from Italy.... I had even more difficulties as it was a left hand drive!
I think I found 2 insurance companies who were willing to insure the car based on the VIN number for 2 weeks so that I could get it registered.
Adrian Flux was by far the best...but a lot more expensive than Admiral and others (that would not insure me anyway without a registration number)

Anyway I hope you enjoy the car.

Sorry tributo, have not been on the site since we have taken delivery! We already have cars insured with Chubb, so the Dealer registered it using a Fiat insurance cover note, but Chubb insured it using a chassis number and sent the policy once we advised the registration number. They did not want any additional security fitted and as they have our details on file, we didn't need to fill an application form.

The only slight issue the Dealer had with DVLA was that they would not accept photocopies of the KYC documents, but wanted to sight the original copy of my wifes licence and the backing paper licence. They posted these back to us with the tax disc.

If I can help in any way, please don't hesitate to let me know. I'm sure the hastle will be worth it when you get the car.  :thumb:

thanks Aero,
Sounds like you had a 'service' orientated dealer helping you through the process.
TBH it has been like ryanair for me so far (DIY). The dealership would not use their insurance to register it and that is where the problems seem to have started. We had to find insurance for a car without a registration number which we found was not easy. Our existing insurer (admiral mutli-car) would not touch it without it being registered and so we have ended up going to another who is insisting on a tracker being fitted before cover can commence. This has to be fitted at a registered fitting location which is not the dealership.......so.........how to get it there? Meanwhile the dealer has now taken the cover note to get the car registered and so far no news about where that is in the DVLA process. I have at least SEEN my car now as i dropped in to check it out (its undercover in the dealership workshop) and still missing its floor mats (it came with LHD ones) but I am no nearer knowing when it will be in my hands.
I have had some good help from some people on this forum but if JD power came knocking today to ask my about the 'dealer experience' i would have to let rip...........
I know I am buying a 'special' car but I have learned the hard way about Abarth 'quirkiness'. I am at the point where this car better be 100% otherwise  :'( It is now nearly 6 months since I first wandered into an abarth dealership and got the "little girl" brush off whislt trying to buy a car i ahd set my heart on and two months since Abarth have had 100% of the money for my car..............

tributo, its no help now, but the value of a dealer is not just judged in miles. We have a Land Rover with load of issues, in fact ask any Discovery or Range Rover owner and I am sure they will give you first names of all the service staff (and probably their children...) its common with any brand to have good and bad.

Sounds like your the victim of lots of people (insurance, dvla, dealer) all not knowing what they are doing, hopefully the dealer can get it sorted. Have you tired calling Abarth direct to voice your concerns?

If you ever buy another, go see John in Plymouth is my advice, local dealer is 20 miles away but I bought mine from Vospers 200 miles away based on how helpful John was...

Agreed, we already 'fired' the first 'local' dealer having found them to be bad beyond belief, (insulting, difficult, judgemental & so indept that they caused significant damage to a demo car during a test drive).

We then in desperation went to the next nearest dealer from us and (at least) found better people skills but subsequently had found this is the first 695 they have done and so, having had no real help from abarth, (UK or IT) are discovering the 'process' as they go with us as the unfortunate guinea pigs.
I could understand and forgive this but:-
a) We are not the first in the UK and
b) I have not ever got the sense that the dealer is "working on it for us" pro-actively marshalling the various parties to figure it out.
I would simply LOVE to put my whole story (6months +) down in writing but this website only has feedback for specific dealers. In any case the issues we have had are because of decisions and policies within Abarth IT and Abarth UK as well as the dealers so it would be like getting annoyed at a Policeman for a law made in parliament.........
Bottom line is there are inconsistencies which have now cost us serious money that had the process been done another way we would not have had to do.
e.g. Aeroman's car was registered by the dealer on their 7 day insurance = able to insure with existing insurer and (i believe) no need to fit a tracker. Our dealer would not do this so we had to insure with a new insurer who insisted on a tracker being fitted and would not give us the same discounts.

Thinking about it webmaster could you start a place where feedback to Abarth themselves could be given?

At some point you want to call the dealer principle and start talking to him about money and delays. This has been known to focus dealer minds...

At the first dealership it was the dealer principal (owner in fact) who caused the greatest offence !!!  :o
