noise from rear drivers side
« on: February 02, 2011, 07:41:57 AM »
my a500 has started with one of the most annoying rattles i have ever heard in any car it is coming from the back seat seaatbelt area and whenever you go over a rough patch of road, which is pretty much everywhere in sheffield the noise starts its like the sound of the seatbelt when you pull it hard and it locks but a permenent rattle

anyone had this rattle as its driving me up the wall i would just like to know if anyone has had the propblem and had it sorted so i can take it to dealers with a bit of info as last time i tool it there they wernt sure waht a a500 was even though they sold it me

many thanks

oliver

I have this, it might not be the seat belt though. Try unlocking the rear seats and banging them shut. Failing that, i fixed mine my folding a cloth several times over to make a pad, then trapping it between the seat and the trim near to the latch to unlock the seats. It's only a small amount of pressure but it works.

If it is the seatbelt, try pulling it all out then retracting it again. If it still rattles, take it back  :thumb:

Had it since day one, figured random italian-ness, got a louder exhaust to drown it out

I have rattles pretty much all around the car but especially from the dash and around the back end (but no idea where it is coming from). The dealer couldn't hear any of the rattles when they took it for a test drive. I'm afraid to say at the moment I have given up and just putting up with the noise (usually have stereo on quite loud anyway so it drowns it out). I will be getting it sorted at some point but just too busy at the moment to take days off work etc to take him back to dealer  :(

I have it. It's not the seats or the suspension, as I took all these off to try and find the source of the f**king thing!

Think it's something on the exhaust. I'm spending this weekend taking that off to see if that cures it...

It's driving me mad!  >:(

I get this as well but haven't looked to see what's causing it yet.

Hi :)

I get the rear seat noise too. I went for the folded cloth method on the catch and it stopped it. I sometimes also get a knock from the passenger side, its not all the time when I go over the many potholes in Manchester, so I am assuming its not suspension, so now I'm wondering if the exhaust is moving on the rubber mount and knocking on the car from time to time. Has this mounting been known to fail does anyone know???
Thanks

Having just had my entire exhaust replaced(Seperate thread to follow shortly) I also have rattles somewhere at the back.
I am confident  its not the suspension and not the exhaust. So while taking pics under the car I reckon there`s only one thing left - the plastic aero bits underneath the rear seat. Which do move about quite easily. Need some experimentation with some sponge or similar in appropiate places which will be for another day.

Perhaps someone else can beat me to this one!
