Our New Abarth Poorly Already 2 Days Old!!!!
« on: January 18, 2012, 06:44:26 AM »
We picked our new Abarth 500 up on Monday afternoon :thumb: and on Tuesday night my wife had to call the AA out to help her :thumbd:. It seems here clutch peddle had pretty much stopped working and was stuck nearly to the bottom of the footwell ???. She was unable to change gears and was forced to call out the emergency breakdown. When the AA arrived which i must say it only took them 5 mins , he checked all the linkages and they were all fine and lubricated/ greased up, then he checked for leaks and there was no apparent leak and all the fluid was accounted for. So finally he lifted the clutch peddle up and pumped it back to pressure and all is working again ;D. We have been recommended by the AA to take it back to the garage SG Petch york to have them check it over. Having studied some of the threads on the forum i can see that this is not a uncommon problem with the 500 and it seems that a master cylinder could be at fault :o. It just doesn't put us in good faith with the brand after just 88 miles on the clock that we have a problem like this and probably need some parts changing already. What are your views guys?

I think you've been very unlucky there  :-\ and I'm sure Petch's will sort you out.  Don't let it put you off straight away.

+1

By all accounts on here, you have a helpful dealer so you'll get sorted.

He's here, he's here, he's here....... :-)

I would be amazed if it was the master cylinder at 88 miles.
I'm sure Petch will check the car through with a fine toothed comb and it will be fine.

I will post the findings of my dealer when it goes in. I agree about the master cylinder, maybe just a sticking peddle. Let's see what petchs come up with.

Ok so it's been back to our dealer. That looked at ASAP which was great, found nothing wrong. But adjusted the clutch peddle anyway. If there's any more problems we are to take it right back. All is working well at the moment :thumb:  we will take a run to the coast at the weekend give it a proper run out.

I agree, just because its a new car doesnt meen there isnt maybe a weak link somewhere and could simply be down to one poorly manufatuered part.

If is a new car you've got your warrent to fall back on, this could have happened with a brand new £5grand city car or a £180grand supercar.

Get it looked at, get it back and start loving it again :thumb:

Just remember every manufacturer and factory will at somepoint sell a 'Friday' car where everthing seems to break or fall apart, we've seen a few people that have been urber unlucky and one thing as lead to anothed but if you look at the amount of happy customers the % is sooooo low its hardly worth mentioning, let us know how you get on

Not going out for a rum till Sunday, I've had to work today. Just given it it's first clean. Oh it's a lovely car I'm really pleased with it. I've driven it to work the last two days ands it been faultless :thumb:  my previous quick car was a Subaru impreza Sti and I thought that handled brilliantly, but this abarth wow can you throw it about or what! It's like a big go-cart. Lovin it.. My wife will have to pry the keys of me if she wants it back!

Well put the coast run off today as my wife has to work this afternoon, so took a run out too Boroughbridge to do the groceries shopping!!! Great on the green hamerton road to boroughbridge nice b road. Car went well no problems with clutch what so ever. So lets hep it was just a new car glitch.
