Power Cut - ESP Sensor
« on: January 23, 2012, 10:40:11 AM »
Here we go again... :banghead:
My dear car starts properly annoy me.

After all sorts of electronic stupidities (most probably due to some weird wiring?), it has now decided to give it an attempt in killing me. :thatsit:

Looked in the search, but have not found anything similar

So what happened:
Corsa cruising along, decided to be on time for a work appointment.
I decided to overtake on a single carriage way (plenty of space), full throttle, in the middle of the overtaking, it just cut out. Felt like 20 bhp.
Obviously the van I tried to overtake was rather confused, but undertook me back again, car coming from the opposite direction... :thatsit:

Stopped the car, and it was not in some sort of limp mode.
All was good, rev'd properly. Drove normal, unless harder acceleration was asked.
Boost looks good. Then realised that it kept flashing the ESP light occasionally.

Road by the way was dry, I regularly drive there, no grip issue what so ever.
And no, I am not an idiot not being able to use the few horses... :watching:

As the car has a windows logo in it, I decided to reboot (lingus: switch off and on).

All good, drove like normal, power was back on.
3 miles later same happened. Straight line, full throttle, complete power cut.

As the beloved piece of Polish/Italian engineering is not showing any error messages the garage will not be able to see anything.
My dear garage is only capable of plugging in computers and replacing parts, nothing more than that... Oil changes is already asked too much.

Will look into it again end of the week (no time before) and use an alternative way of transport (lingus: Italian, more reliable, faster, and on two wheels).

Edit:
I really expect some issue around a faulty ESP/ABS sensor that gives a wrong signal/information to the ECU.
So that thinks "wheelspin" and cuts power...

Really annoyed by this.
Car of 3k miles.
Has potential to be sold soon :banghead: :deadhorse: :thatsit:

This isn't good at all. Sounds to me as though there is something seriously awry with the car's electrical system, especially after the other problems you've had. I can only suggest taking it to the dealer, and going out for a drive with a service tech to demonstrate what's heppening...

sounds a lot like what my AGP did, same overtaking situation and it lost boost, only just avoided a head on crash.

car drove smoothly at low speed, just no go when accelerating hard. no warning lights and the error codes weren't helpful. turned out to be the dump valve  :thumb:

Ok so Lloyd and Ashley have AGP's but this sounds like the same issue. The error code on the diagnostics didn't show the correct fault anyway. I cannot now recall the problem but worth asking them for ideas.

In the meantime, 2 wheels is safer and be careful on the way home.  ;)

Thanks for the support guys :thumb:

At the moment I am tempted to just bring it back to the dealers and sell it... :'( ::)

Issue seems to come from an ESP direction though.
It's not that it looses power (as with a dump valve), but it really cuts it down.
Together with the silly ESP flashing thing, it seems like one of the ESP/ABS sensors give a wrong signal.

1. Take it in and leave it there;
2. Breathe;
3. Review the sale position when you pick it up.

Advice from one who has been there and would have regretted it....

Thanks for the advise :)
I keep breathing, I let my stress out by taking the bike out 8)

Bringing it to the friendly dealership will only return in lots of instant coffee (beurk), them not finding the problem (as the only thing they seem to be capable is connecting the car to their magic terminal), and them suggesting again to replace the entire wiring in the car...

If they do that, I will sell immediately, because I have no interest in a car that has be dis-/re-assembled by a dealership with such a good knowledge of things... :thumbd:
