My plastic cap on the gear knob has a few dings on it and some paint has peeled off.  Can you just get a replacement plastic cap?

But it does seem to be a bit fragile and I keep knocking it with my wedding ring.  My wife won't let me divorce her just to protect a bit of plastic so I was wondering if this Fiat 500 leather knob would fit: -

Thanks for that. The first one might be an option.  The second looks like what I currently have and is cheaper than I thought and the third one will be too cold.

Don't want to put a damper on this but I have a buyer beware warning for you. My son decided he wanted to change the gear knob on his Panda 100HP (against my advice). Now the method of fitting on a 500 may well be different from the Panda but he ended up having to cut the padded part of the knob off with a Stanley knife and then twist the remaining plastic centre off the gear lever with a pair of grips. He then found out that the lever was splined and that the dealers use a puller to get the gear knob off. He then proceeded to fit his new gear knob (purchased on Ebay). He bought one listed for a Panda and it came with a 'universal' fitting kit as do a couple of the Ebay listings shown in this thread. The finished job was a real mess. He's lost his reverse lockout, the gear lever isn't totally covered and the gear knob keeps coming off in his hand. Stick with dealer parts :thumb:

A500 knob is screwed on, simply flick off the top to reveal screw remove screw and hey presto knob comes off.

With any mod its important to check component compatibility and how the original parts are fitted, just winging it will often lead to a crap job  :( always do your research!!!  ;D
They laugh at us because we are different, We pity them because they are all the same.

Like the 1st and 3rd one posted by trooper.

I will confirm metal gear knobs are freezing in winter, also if you damaged yours now on wedding ring the metal one will be damaged within 5 mins

I'll second that, there's a lot of rubbish out there that doesn't fit.

Thanks for all the replies.

I'll look at genuine ones or maybe just touch up the one I have.
