Some things I know and don't know
« on: October 13, 2010, 07:41:35 PM »
Hello everyone - been lurking for a while and what a great forum - a distinct lack of 'attitude' one sees on many others so well done and thanks for all the info I have gleaned so far.

I recently took delivery of a Black A500, white stripes, black leather with red stitching (now available with white / silver stitching on the CC I saw the other day), Xenons, climate etc.

The car's for commuting in London and so far has proven excellent - only the narrow track over small speedbumps is a shame, you actually have to slow down...

The main downside seems to be that it appears to bring the inner hooligan out in me.

I have learned so far that:
I should get a TMC box (though for razzing to work and back this and esseesse are overkill)
The stereo is very good
Xenons are good
an Arkon i-phone windscreen mount from I-world suckers perfectly to the front of the boost gauge putting iphone nav in the perfect place
BUT that the blue and me port doesn't provide enough power to charge the phone when using the nav so a seperate fag socket charger seems necessary and I therefore can't listen to ipod music while using nav.

Questions I have
With the phone all connected via bluetooth , should the stereo broadcast the nav voice commands?  Also is it possible to turn the default phone volume up?  It's very quiet when making or receiving calls currently and bears no relation to music volume.  Any help on these greatly appreciated and otherwise will stay in touch.

With regard to your questions:

1) I think the only way you can get the SatNav commands comming from the stereo is if you connect an AUX cable from your iPhone to the car, and there isn't an AUX socket on the A500 to allow you to do this so it cannot happen.

Only way I know of getting a nav to announce through the stereo would be to get the Abarth Sat Nav, and reviews on here of that aren't very good.

2) Yep, you can turn up the phone volume within the stereo settings.  I think (I may be wrong) that it is INT Volume.

Newer (Aug 2010 onwards iirc) 500s do have an AUX in now  :thumb:

(edit: this may well just be the 500c atm)

hi and welcome

the iphone sat nav commands will work when connect via blueandme usb socket, you have to look at the setting on the phone, I use Navigon and it has controls for the external volume, ipod etc etc and works fine, but  you must be playing the Blue&Me for it to work, I have found another way.

I have a August build collected late Sep and I have yet to find any aux-in or mention of it in the handbook FYI.

It seems quite random at the minute.
I've only seen them A500C at the minute but some of the Fiat 500's seem to have them.

What will be interesting is to see if its just a new panel near the USB (and the line in is already there in the loom, for playing out on older iPods that only support line out analogue) so you could change the panel, or if its a change to the loom and radio firmware as well.

Makes no difference to me that I don't have one by the way John, just adding some evidence to the theory  ;)

As far as I'm aware the 500 hasn't had an aux in before in any trim its a good bet its a change to the loom as well as the panel hardware. I'll double check my launch brochure if anyone is really desperate to know but would seem like a lot of effort and cost to change given how cheap memory sticks are.

Yeah, but given how B&M is very "microsoft" people can get impatient with it  ::) Simple is sometimes better.

I have autoplay turned off, the last 3 days I have selected menu->USB options->auotplay->deactivate every day and it still autoplays when I start the car  ::)

Don't get me started on how it calls my uncle despite reading out the wife's name in confirmation  :o
