Sport mode
« on: January 28, 2011, 06:59:31 PM »
I switched off the sport button this afternoon in the hope of saving a bit of fuel to make it to the next petrol station as I was running a little low (not something I normally do you understand!).  It lasted for about 3 seconds before I realised I'd rather run out of fuel and walk to the petrol station than drive without the Sport mode on!  :)

It'd be quicker as well :thumb:

It's horrible and I really can't drive with the sport button off.

I fear it's a double edged sword. :P

Currently 550 miles into my A500 ownership, and i have resisted using the sport button on all but a few occasions just to try it..

Now i suspect (given what my experience felt like) that if i drove with it on all the time, i would be reluctant to drive without it.. once you're used to something and all that jazz!

However as i am currently running it in (yes i know the arguments for and against) i feel that i should take it relatively steady on the new ride.

The brief glimpses into "sport" mode have felt ohhhh so nice  ;) however whilst commuting etc i don't really feel the need to blast away from the traffic lights or drive @ 10 /10ths. As such i am surprising myself with the restraint i am showing, and the bonus is that the OBC is currently showing an average MPG of 39.8 on a mixed driving route... (in comparison our 1.2 pop does around 44 and it isn't driven quite so quickly)

For me the A500 seems a brilliant compromise of relatively frugal, good looking, great fun car, with a turn of moderate pace as and when required.

I think what i'm trying to say is that it's nice to know you can have a little more fun when you want it, but you don't have to blast the doors off everytime you drive (well for me anyway)  ;D

leave the button on, control it with the right foot

my epic 49.7mpg trip to wales was done with sport on and use of a light foot, and the power is always there if you need it :thumb:

I'm running mine in too (54 miles so far). I have to admit the temptation to drive in sport mode and control my right foot is too great.
...And tomorrow I fit my TCM box. 25 more horses and 50 more torques. Joy!

I second that, as I've said before feels like someone's stolen your turbo.

I'm going to have to be careful with the right foot.  I've got to get at least 38 mpg every day. Love the car.

if you keep an eye on the turbo guage then you can drive with sports on!

I like turning my on/off.

with fuel prices I am weary of costs, but I like to think of my sport button as Rory's secret weapon. if around normal streets and just going here and there without the need for boost I leave the sport off, if I need a quick burst or to get rid of some pesty twingo driver, then the sport goes on  :thumb:
