Starting delay after turning key (500C)
« on: January 30, 2011, 05:04:39 PM »
Noticed today that it took about 5 seconds of holding the key before the starter motor kicked in. I had previously seen 1 - 2 seconds, but today seemed very long.

Is this the immobiliser playing up?

I think thats just a characteristic of the C. It seems to vary quite a bit.
Try pressing the brake a little harder before you turn the key

Yes, I had the same trouble on my A500c. It was noticeably slower to fire up than my previous Fiat 500.

To be honest, I have no idea whether it is the immobiliser.

Had the same problem with my 159 and Spider as they were both push button start you had to have either the clutch or brake pedal pressed and if you were not pressing quite hard they would struggle to start  :'(

Hope this helps  :thumb:

I'm sure I pressed the brake pedal hard before I turned the key. I'll revisit this procedure tomorrow morning.

I think I press the brake with the same force each time (roughly), but will experiment with force etc.

Must also check if it always ends up in N mode after starting as I could not swear to it that it normally does that.

You should leave it in gear when you turn it off but it will always select nuetral when you turn the key.

Yes, it is always left in gear when turning it off. Think you mentioned it beeps at you if you don't, but have never tried switching it off in N.
