TTC - What exactly is it

Hi All.

The information on TTC in the manual is vague to say the least. What is it exactly? I understand it as an electronic Limited Slip Differential arrangement? If it is then I do not get why it is not turned on all the time. Why is this so?

Its a function of the latest bosch braking system that reduces wheel spin in corners by braking rather than by cutting engine power which normal stability controls do. It is consider by Abath to be part of the 'Sports' system so this is why it is not on all the time like the sports button. Although I think they seperated it out from that so you can still engage it in normal mode.

Last sentance is guess work maybe one of the dealers has an official explanation.

It's TTC - torque transfer control, and unlike other systems it brakes the wheel that starts to spin as opposed to cutting power. It gives the driver the opportunity to cut the wheelspin themselves and execute a corner without any electronic help when it's turned off...

I say without any electronic help but the traction control and esp are always engaged. only the electronic diff can be turned off.  :thumb:

And you would be spot on! The esp will just do the engine power sapping trick.

It is worth noting that on the journo day they set up a figure of 8 track to show the TTS off and apparently it works, works very well.

Ok Still not clear. Is it braking the wheel using the Brakes or by some differential trickery?

Braking with brakes so the engine is still at power, opposed to cutting power from the engine which esp does. Means you regain control but retain speed engine power for exiting the corner.

The TTC needing to be switched on each time is a pain. Does anyone know why the systen was configured this way?

This is a complete guess but I'll give it a go!!!!

I would imgaine the computers work overtime working out if a wheel is slipping etc when TTC is switched on so for your average journey it's not required. You do need to be giving the car some to make use of the TTC so quickly pressing the button isn't to much hassle.
