I would suspect it has a lot to do with availablity of spares, nowthen, who last reported this issue had nearly a 2 week gap between the reporting and resolution threads but it doesn't mean it took that long. The dealer should offer you a courtesy car for the duration, although that's likely to not be an Abarth  ;D

I am going to ask them tomorrow about getting a courtesy car, but they told me before it got bad and had to be recovered, that they didnt have any available til the 22nd Feb.

With the clutch totally buggered do you wreckon the gear box will be affected? as it wasnt going into a gear as well?

Hello - first post!

I can report another wobbly clutch pedal. Lots of lateral movement spotted when I checked it to investigate a clicking noise when the pedal was released, just the sort of noise that would be made by a failed weld.

Car has only done 6000 miles :(

And it's one of several faults I'll have to get looked at under warranty:

* Top side stripe sticker peeling off on the front wing.
* Tyre pressure indicator not clearing when tyre set to correct pressure (or a range of pressures either side).
* Coolant gradually disappearing (have read on here of oil cooler, water pump and weeping hose issues).
* Dash lights coming on and off - are they light sensitive - couldn't find anything in the manual after having a quick read?

So after one week and 1000 miles I'm a little disappointed to find these issues. Here's hoping I haven't bought a Friday car....

On the plus side it's the first car that's put a smile on my face since I bought an Elise 12 years ago...it goes and corners quite well, brakes are good. Shame about the dampers!

Welcome

The dash lights are light sensitive and a pain if you turn them on for low light levels and the dang thing decideds its too bright for them  ::). The TPMs are not well considered to be honest, from what has previously been written.

The rest should really have been sorted out before you picked up the car as I take it, its an ex demo (Why not post something in our very friendly welcome section or get some pictures up in members motors?) Although I'm not sure what sticker you have on the front wing, that could be a custom job?

And yes people are working on the suspension issue  ;)

Thanks Chris. I'll put a post up on the introduce yourselves section. I've not had chance to look at that yet. The car is an EsseEsse and the kit was fitted at purchase. I bought the car from a private seller, and not a very good one at that!

Not good about the clutch pedal  :( Mine first snapped in October and I was assured that the problem would not reoccur by Abarth....5 months later it snapped again!! It has been fixed, but I'm still worried that it could happen again.

Interesting. I took the car to my local Fiat dealer (mainly to buy the right anti-freeze to top up the coolant) and one of their experienced technicians looked at the pedal. He'd not seen anything like it on any of the 500s they have sold. I would be extremely surprised if Abarth make any changed to the pedal box in the car over the base model, other than some fancy pedal foot covers....or are the fancy pedals more than just covers and require the complete pedals to be replaced...?

For three pedals to fail, either a faulty batch were supplied to Fiat or there is a more fundamental problem, perhaps not with the pedal but with the clutch. Given that the Abarth engine produces more torque there is a chance that the clutch is uprated by Abarth prior to the turbo installation. To cope with the extra torque a stiffer clutch cover may be required, depending on the rating of the OEM 500 clutch. If the cover is uprated the springs in the cover will be stiffer and more pressure will be required on the pedal to operate the clutch, and this extra pressure could cause borderline pedals to fail.

The other issue could be missallignment between the clutch slave cylinder and the release arm, requiring extra pedal effort when pressing the clutch pedal.

Why are you worried? Two reported cases on here out of 1500 cars sold?

On the whole the the 500 range as a whole seems to be a pretty reliable car compared to some, provided you ignore the washer jets. But they had time to get it right with the Panda  ;)

Sorry to resurrect an old thread but I just noticed my clutch pedal has masses of movement in it. I would consider it dangerous to drive so I will be taking it to Lipscombs in the morning.

It seems this is not an isolated case so hopefully I should be covered under warranty. My car is an 09 on 20k.
Its never gonna be fast enough !

Just a quick follow up. The pedal was replaced under warranty by Lipscombs with the minimum of fuss. Its just how a car dealer should be. Cheers guys.
