Increased Rev Limit
« on: May 03, 2011, 12:56:09 PM »
Does anyone know what parts need to be modified in order to up the rev limit to say 7.5k or if this is even possible from the multiair engine?

Would expect a fair amount of forged parts would be required.

Why do you want it to rev higher?

It's a small capacity engine with low down, turbo-assisted torque, that's just it's nature.

I'd suggest the MultiAir system isn't even vaguely designed to handle it.  Just change gear earlier and surf the torque.

Just feel it runs out of puff to early. A larger rev range would enable the car to stay on full boost for longer.

I think a remap or Tmc would help with the torque but still better to change gear about 5.5-6000rpm.

You would need a larger turbo to keep alot of torque high up in the revs but then you would suffer from turbo lag so in affect could make the car slower unless only went slightly bigger that might work ok.

As for making it rev harder I'm not sure but wouldn't like to rev the engine that hard anyway.

Am currently running a TMC and am very pleased with the results. Am just used to higher revving cars and wondered if the block could give any more.

A larger rev range Isn't going to allow it to stay on boost longer, you need better breathing, perhaps bigger turbo.
It goes up to 6.5 k in the higher gears some tuning would make it stronger from 5-6. 5 k.

YouYou don't get a lot of high revving turbos at this end of the market, generally in fact, if you want revs you want a well tuned NA motor, m3,  s4 etc.

It does feel a bit limited in 1st and 2nd, this feels like inbuilt protection for the gearbox.

theres alot of safer things you can change before increasing rev ranges. GTT are looking for test cars worth dropping them a Email or PM to see what they can do. details are on the comercial section of this site.
