APE Groaning noise in reverse and when quick downshift through Gears

Hi, Does anyone have any issues with their APE with a groaning noise when reversing? it also does it when downshifting quickly from higher speeds (although not as loud). it feels as though it is coming through the gearbox or clutch. I have had it back to the dealers but as normal they find nothing wrong. as soon as I put it in reverse to pull away from garage it does it again.

Take a tech out with you in the car and make him hear the noise. I've found this is the only way otherwise I get the same answer as you every time.

Hard to say if the noises I have heard are the same as yours but my APE certainly doesn't have the quietest 'box, reverse and 1st -2nd, 2nd -1st, I do hear some transmission whine that I've only ever experience in stripped out Mitsi Evo RS and a 20yr old Mini, certainly not something I would expect to hear in a modern vehicle.

It is very quiet on mine certainly when compared to the AGP I have also heard it on, dealer claims its normal and as I have heard it in other cars with a lot more mileage I'm not too bothered, doesn't give you a quality product feel though.

Thanks. It's in the garage today (again) for the aircon and have had a techie out that tested it last week and said it was fine. he heard it immediately and will investigate. he said it may be the pads sticking. not sure how it can be pads when it happens on downshift and can feel it through clutch pedal and gearstick. oh well lets wait and see i suppose.

They do seem to have ears when your in the car with them don't they? It's amazing lol

Aparently it was the brakes. not sure why I would feel it through the clutch pedal when changing down gears quickly from high revs. never mind seems ok at the minute.

Nope not fixed. new gear box fitted and noise still there. been in a few times since and in again today. Fiat specialist looking at it. Gonna get rid of it. let someone else worry about it. love the car but not the problems I have had with it. >:(
