iPod - Tracks play in wrong order??
« on: April 13, 2011, 09:02:47 PM »
Ok got latest Blue and Me Update, got overpriced fiat dongle for iPod. Can play all albums and playlists.

BUT tracks dont play in the correct order! Looks like alphabetical. Why why why.  >:(

If anyone can help I would be very grateful!

Thanks.

Apparently its the way they are named. To play them in track order they have to be named with the track number first - which means you have to alter your entire iTunes catalogue ( which for me is 6800 songs and i aint doing it :-\ )

Ok bear with me... I worked out how to fix this when I plugged in my iphone 4 this morning and it worked perfectly - all tracks were in order!

Checked my itunes library on my PC and all the tracks have the number prefix already. So why didnt my nano work? I think it may be because I havent used it for a year or so and since then I changed computers and moved my itunes library and that added the number prefixes.

So... here comes the science bit:

Make sure you have the latest iTunes installed, I think apple may have changed it about a year ago to put the track numbers in. Then try rebuilding your itunes library.

There is an option to change itunes media library location in Edit->Preferences->Advanced. For example change the location from C:\itunes to C:\new_itunes AND tick the option underneath "Keep iTunes Media Folder Organised" this will add the track number prefixes. Also tick the "copy files to iTunes" tick box. Press Ok.

Then go to File->Library->Organise Library. Tick both tickboxes "Consolidate" and "Re-organise" and press ok. Will take a while to rebuild depending on size of the media library but after this files should have all track numbers.

Then wipe your ipod or iPhone of all your music and then copy the new updated music files back over.

Blue and Me should now play albums in the correct order. Sorted!  :thumb:

Yeah ok that didnt work. They must just have concentrated on getting it working with the latest iPhones and iPod touches. I guess they have different file systems.

At least it plays my iPhone tracks in order.

Have you actually managed to get your IPOd to play???? I cant, when I plug it into the USB all that happens is the screen on the Ipod says "OK to disconnect". Anyone have any ideas where I am going wrong here?? The Ipod is an 80gb Classic, formatted for Windows. Ihave actually asked this before, but got nowhere :thumbd:

Yeah my nano worked. You have installed latest blue and me firmware and got the overpriced adaptor?

Im sure I have an ancient chunky ipod somewhere, if I can find it will try it.

For the random track playing try saying "shuffle off" mine used to always go back to shuffle.

Well if its only a week old you dont need the adaptor I guess! Try a newer iPod or iPhone if a friend has one and see if that works. Maybe its just not compatible with older iPods? Mine works perfectly with my iPhone 4 now so I can live with my nano not quite working perfectly.
