While I'm having a rant about my pet hates (see my Blue&Me thread), I thought I would also put the world to rights about compatibility issues concerning iPods and Blue&Me.
Blue&Me has a lovely feature which allows you to play MP3 tracks through the USB port in the glove compartment. A normal memory stick will do the trick, just copy your MP3s onto the stick, pop it in and away you go.
An iPod will also work, BUT, it will only work if:
1, It is formatted to PC mode, not Macintosh.
2, It is in "disk only" mode.
3, The tracks on it are in MP3 format, not MP4, AAC, or any other weird and wonderful format.
4, The tracks cannot be downloaded from iTunes, as they are copy protected and do not work on the Microsoft based system.
All in all, whilst an iPod is a lovely toy to have, if you just want it for the car, save your money and buy a £6 USB stick from Tesco, it will do the same job.

This does annoy me, although as our 100HP doesn't have Blue & Me it doesn't really affect us yet. No way I'm bothering to convert my 20gig of music into MP3, AAC suits me just fine. There are plenty of very effective kits out there, VW's and BMW's don't have this faff. Bloody Mircoshaft.  However I'll go down the stick route when I do get one. |

Is it my imagination or isn't the 'random' feature particularly random. I seem to get the same ones all too regularly.
I know about random 'seeding', perhaps this is the problem.

whats that then? just ive noticed this on my cheapy usb head unit. always seems to be the same tracks in the same order. |

Some (most?/all?) random number generators are not completely random. The starting number may be the same every time a series of random numbers is called and the subsequent list of random numbers will be more or less the same. Therefore the start point, the seed, should ideally be different each time a series of random numbers is generated. It may well be that this seed is not being changed and stored and the random series is more or less the same every time, which is why the same tracks seem to reoccur. Or something like that.  |

John, You're not supposed to be telling us about the Tesco one when you have lovely Scorpion USB memory sticks for sale  Seriously, thanks for clearing that up; not being familiar with how the interfaces work, I was just wondering if a simple memory stick would work rather than buying an MP3 player - and I'd have no need for one other than the car - so that's good news. Thanks. |

talking of all these formats that are conpatable etc etc.... does anyone recormend a MP3 converter? for thoses that dont have the files as mp3's ....

I use http://www.dbpoweramp.com/ which can convert in batches and keep folder and naming structure. Can be acquired from torrent sites. |

anyone tell me where the hell i find this function!? all i can see is "convert to ACC" - want to get some MP3's on my new USB stick for tomorrow - going away for 4 days driving so wouldnt mind some music on the USB instead of all the bloody CD's i haul around with me cheers  |
