Being slightly obscure I've not got an Ipod, I have a Microsoft Zune instead, which is brilliant. Does anyone know if there are plans to get blue&me to work with Zunes? As far as I know the Zune's internal controller masks the file system within the hard disk, so you can't simply plug it in and use it as a memory stick.

Also, is there enough juice in the USB port to spool up an external hard disk - something like a 500Gb 3.5" disk or are we limited to simple memory sticks?

I take it the head unit understands audio track meta-data.

microsoft zunes ? blimey how close is that sailing to itunes.. you would of thought gates and co could be a bit more original than that  Roll Eyes

i think the problem with B&M usb port is that when built memory sticks weren't as big as they are today and didn't need as much power, so as externals get smaler yet bigger in memory and USB get bigger, the output of power has remained the same. Funny cos I noticed my external maxtor has two USB's to plug in, it obviously needs alot of juice  Shocked

From what I remember a USB port can provide a max of 500mamps.

External drives have two and not all USB ports are able to provide this due to design or some other reasons which is why they have two sockets so you can give it that extra juice that is required.

Microsoft zune have been around for yeeeeears. They were only ever released in the US for many years before they came over there.
