Why no dedicated button for Blue & Me playback?
« on: September 23, 2011, 07:59:02 AM »
The UI for this system was designed by a total muppet.   If I want to listen to the radio or cd I simply press a button.  But if I want to listen to music on a memory stick I have to either press the 'voice' button and then shout impotently at the door pillar, or navigate through a menu on the dash whilst not crashing into anything.

I am actually hoping someone comes on here and says LOL - you're doing it all wrong...  but I fear that's how it's supposed to work.

The problem you're having is...

No wait, yeah its like that for me too  :thumbd:

Does my actual nut in, and because I'm from Scotland, and everyone knows voice activated things dont understand Scottish, even considering an attempt at the shouting would be a truely insane idea, no matter how slow or clear I speak it rarely understands me, so I just swear at it, tell it to shut up, etc etc, it probably makes me turn into an aggressive driver, arguing with my car.

Fiat are not alone with this kind of stupidity.   Car manufacturers need to grasp that a car is NOT an iPod.  I don't want to take my eyes off the road to navigate menus.

I got laughed at on another forum for speccing my company BMW with basic aircon and stereo when they've got Idrive with the big screen and daft joystick thingy, but I can switch stations, or turn the heat up or down without looking...

APE's have no problem with instant playback from Blue & Me system.

Stick USB in socket, turn system on, wait a few seconds for library to build up, hey presto! Music from USB.  :thumb:

I agree it can be abit daft but much better than the over the top complicated stupid idrive bmws have. They have options like 10 different settings for interior light brightness controlled through a joystick ???

Perhaps it gets better when you're used to it, but I nearly crashed a loaned 3 series trying to retune the radio.

If you push the CD button twice it brings you to the memory stick without having to go through the voice controls etc even with a CD in  :)

Hmmm.  Thought I'd tried that.   <goes off to try it again>
