A small family car converted into a little screaming monster. That is the Abarth way. All these small monsters sooner or later become classics.
But after searching the forum I've found that one is forgotten. The Fiat Cinquecento from 1992 to 1998. Not the Cinquecento Abarth which is nothing but a standard car with some fancy plastic glued on, but the Cinquecento Trofeo. A "monster" of a rally car.
Where are they now? I'm asking because I am the proud owner of the 1994 Trofeo in the picture. I know of one more Trofeo here in Denmark, but what about the UK? Did they ever race in the UK and what became of them?

Excellent little car, can't believe it's been overlooked until now

I remember reading an article about these beasts when they were launched, in the old Performance Car I think.

They compared it to an original 500 Abarth - I would have given away internal organs to have either one of those cars.

They never made a road going version of this car, sort of like a Peugeot 106 Rallye, did they?

No, luckily enough there was no "road going" version. That's what makes them unique. Almost too unique. Where are they?

By the way. It's useless as a "normal" road car. 100 km/h at 4800 rpm with Abarth gearing. With standard gearing it is 3300 rpm.
It's limited to 8500 rpm and has 75 hp at 8000 rpm.

I drive it 35 km to work at least twice a month just to see the reactions of other drivers when I come "screaming" by.

I read this post a while back and thought nothing more of it, until today as someone has moved in just along the street from me and they drive a black Cinquecento 'Sporting', which has a chrome scorpion just above the radiator grille and the Abarth badge on the rear quarter panels turning into a tasteful red stripe running to the front end.

I'd never seen one before, but you're definitely right in the assertion that it looks little more than a standard car with some decals and badges!?

I'll grab a picture next time I see it.

Finally saw the Cinquecento again at the weekend... went in the house, grabbed camera, came back and it was being loaded onto a scrappies flatbed truck.  Off to Abarth heaven  Sad

well what a surprise and totally out of the blue
my little Fiat Abarth Rally Trofeo car won the Best Abarth at the show Cheesy
just like to thank everyone from the Mag Auto Italia for this and for a good show
so maybe my little rally car is not forgotten after all ,,,,,,,

I think i have the only one in the uk ,,,,,
it is form Fiat Auto Corse Chivasso Torino, and did the 1997 Monte Carlo Rally for Fiat
