Car Cleaning in the Winter
« on: November 23, 2010, 10:32:06 AM »
What does everyone do to keep their car clean in the winter?
Every weeknight, before I put the car away in the garage, I rinse the cack off, wipe with a microfibre mitt and dry off with a microfibre towel.  It only takes 10 minutes and the car looks pretty clean every day.
I do a soapy wash on a Friday night, as the car often stays in the garage at weekends.
Need to get my little pressure washer fixed so I can use that when it gets salty.
I don't do the wheels though, because the discs just rust and sieze on overnight.
Does anyone else have a routine they go through?

Wheels would be the number one priority tbh. depending on what wheels you have of course. Any with the polished face will be very prone to corrosion or laquer peel if they are either untreated with a good wax, or washed reguarly when its salty time  ;)

heres a quick link of a high temperature sealant/wax. http://www.cleanyourcar.co.uk/sealants/finishkare-1000p-hi-temp-sealant/prod_589.html

Because it is a high temp wax, it obviously stops the build up of brake dust on the wheels, and makes cleaning them so much easier.

Credit to you taking the time to going over the car every night. Theres not many at all who would giove it a though in Winter :thumb:

If I had a Ferrari, or a Lambo I might pay somebody to do that every night... as it is, when I finally make it in through the door after a day at my desk I tend to prefer trying to spend some time with my son before he goes to bed (assuming that I get home before he has gone up). Then its eating and trying to have a relax in front of the TV.

Apart from the time issues, I dont have a garage so if I soaked the road it would be a sheet of ice in the morning once it gets cold!

Car gets washed if time permits at the weekend.

I really do only spend 10 mins on it.  I get in at 4:00pm, son is watching telly or doing homework so car gets a wipe down, goes away for the night then I pick up daughter from the childminder at 4:15pm, then it's time to start the tea.

garage every night, wash or try to once a week.

I am like goldie, by the time I get home am tired and also its dark, plus too cold, I can just imagine having missing bits and it looking like a half decent job which would drive me mad, plus i hate smeary windows.

sunday is wash day, weather permitting, sometimes saturday if he is a good boy  ;D

Looking forward to moving into our new place next summer, garage, drive, space to clean the car when I am home in daylight. It needs it now, actually. Might sneak one in tomorrow, before the salt gets sprayed on our roads.
Red A500 SS, Monza exhaust, black leather, white mirrors, Koni FSDs. Not sure what happens under the bonnet but the car still keeps me smiling......must avoid the technical engine-type posts...

Down to  acrams hand jobs for me :-[ the local jetwash men, at least once a week only charge me a couple
of quid to soap the car up and rinse it down, he knows i like my arches cleaning, but i dont let them
go near it with a sponge, i towel it of with a microfibre when i get home.
Then a proper wash on the nicer winter days.
