Convertible Abarth roadster canned?
« on: November 29, 2011, 12:36:12 PM »
According to a French website the Abarth version of the Alfa 4C has been canned.

"Officially it is said that it was because of a risk of internal competition that the project was abandoned and unofficially it is said that because the project 4C is in bad shape that the project is set aside."

I must say I wonder if the 4C will even make it to market - Alfa seems to have canned most things for the next couple of years.

It is also reported that there will "never be an Abarth longer than 4 metres" so no Golf rival for those who need extra space.

I love it when websites use the word "never"
That usually means it's just around the corner  ;D

The Punto must be pretty close to 4m already?

Ah, doom and gloom, quick spread it around lest anyone else be enjoying their day.

If it has been, so be it and I'll buy something else.  If the 4C makes it to market, it'll be on my drive.  ;D

As far as I was aware they've been merrily taking deposits for 4Cs so can't see that dying now. The roadster has always been a bit of speculation but given track histories as John says, nevers are round the corner and coming soons never arrive  ;D

Have a little ponder about the main component and how many can actually be made for Alfa each year then ask whether there are enough of them for Abarth too to make it worthwhile.... Seems to me that provides a better reason rather than 'we're all doomed' principles.  ::)

Good choice.
Odds for me would be to give the Abarth up and get it too!

Gorgeous! :thumb:

Edit:
Unless I find some more cash and I can upgrade a few more categories :P

Interesting point. Is there a single french car that I would sell my soul to own? No.

Italian, German, British, American even, yes, I can think of candidates. I can even put a Japanese car on the 'want' list although not the same category. French thought, non je n'aime pas!  ;)

Are you sure?

I can think of one French car I'd quite like to own...

They know nothing about cars those French frogs, they harp on about va va vooom. But have they ever made a great car? I can't think about a single example I could feel passionate about.
