fitting pressed plates
« on: November 20, 2011, 04:58:18 PM »
I got some legal pressed plates for my 500 abarth and i have used foam sticky pads for the rear plate but at the front I'm struggling to fit the plate with the pads as it does not sit right on the small curve
. I am now thinking about drilling the plates and screwing them on is that a good idea ? cheers  :thumb:

If the colour of the screws match the area where the holes are, then it will be ok. You wouldn't want the front plate to fall off in mid motion were it affixed on pads would you?

Can you tell me where you sourced them please? I would like some for myself.

We've stuck our front plates on with 4 sticky pads. You could try using a few more and making sure all surfaces are really clean and grease free.

I bought some two sided adhesive tape from Ebay, its around 4mm to 5mm thick around 40mm wide
Stick two lengths of tape the full length of the number plate.
You only get one go at sticking it on, so you need a good eye for it been level, remove the backing tape and press it on. Once on it stays on.
The front plate can be bent slightly to accommodate the curve of the front bumper.

Click here for Dubmeister in Bridgewater who make UK legal pressed metal plates. We've got them on our Abarths and just stuck them on with sticky pads - there weren't any problems or issues fitting them...  ???

We've got four (1 Fiat and 3 Abarth's) all of which have had pressed plates on their entire lives without any issues. The biggest problem I have on mine is that people keep reversing into me when parked and so the plate isn't quite the same shape as when I put it on...  :o
