Gold dust on brake disks?!
« on: January 25, 2012, 04:45:36 PM »
Hi huys, just wondering if anyone knows if having some kind of gold coloured dust on the brake disks is a problem? I have been having a horrible screeching sound from the rear too? Could be a related problem? HELP
Thanks  :)

Is it not just rust?  Quite damp out at moment.

Does the gold dust appear once the car has been parked up for a bit?

If so, it's sadly not gold, but surface rust on the discs...

The rear screeching sounds like the common sticky caliper thing, in which case you need to get your dealer to have a look at it.

Go for a drive; make good use of the brakes; see if it had gone. If so, just surface rust which forms quickly.

If its not moved for two days it will be rust.  Happens on every car I've owned.  Fear not.
