A total of £731.20 for the second year service and labour for fitting pads, discs and new brake hoses. The service alone I was quoted £450.

Just had a quote from Autoworld for the 2 year oil and filter change, brake fluid change and general check - £136.

Rather good, I think.

When I picked up my 500SS they tried to convince me it needed a full service every 6000miles, but my book reads every 18000miles.   Shocked

yep, its 18000 for the full service but the SS does need oil and filter every 6000 miles. its covered by the SS handbook supplement but not many people seem to get the book. Thumb Up

According to the service book, the brake fluid should be changed at the 36k mileage or 2 years.  Since mine is 2 years old and just had an 18k service, should this have included the brake fluid change?

i would have thought so but i wouldn,t rely on the dealer having included it in the service without confirmation Thumb Up

Answer from Autoworld:

18k service cost does not include brake fluid change.
36k service does.
However if you want brake fluid changed at 2 years (and have only done 18k like me) then it's at extra cost.

menu pricing doesn,t really work in the real world, ends up with unnecessary work on one hand and stuff not being done on the other

best just to look in the book and get a price for the work that actually needs doing Thumb Up

any VAT registered garage can service it Thumb Up

So for a general service any FIAT dealer can service them or authorised FIAT service centre. We have Throughbread Cars near me who service FIAT, Lancia, Alfa Romeo, etc. They do good work and cost less than a main dealer. They are asmall Village garage with a good reputation.  have all original service items for my car for three years inc correct Abarth Oil.

bex698 makes a good point, just check the cost of the parts. Most garages have a good margin on oil, washer fluid etc.
I prefer to do the service on my Land Rovers myself, but that is also because I can use the local LR garages workshop. On the Mini I provide fluids and parts and let them do the work. Hopefully my 500ss will come soon and I intend to do the same there.
BTW 2.6 hours labour for a oil change and change of spark plugs is a rip off. Oil change cannot take longer than 40min so what are they doing the rest of their time? When the Mini went to the dealer for the first service I asked if I could wait? Dealer said that it would take a while but it would be up to me. Waited till the car was in and work started then went around the corner to do some shopping. When I came back the car was ready. On their bill were more hours quoted than the car was in their workshop!!! After arguing the excuse was that they charge the time which is set out in their internal service guideline and that that is an average. Do I care?
