I'm sorry but I used the word Fiat
« on: September 10, 2010, 07:16:04 PM »
I was filling out my forms for my lone worker device (seriously cool bit of tech) today and when I came to the identifying information part I had a real dilemma. Do I put that i drive an Abarth 500 and risk no one knowing what it is in the (admittedly very unlikely) event of an emergency. In the end I'm afraid I out it down as a Fiat Abarth 500. No one tell my car ok. . .

The NCP fast park system doesn't recognise "Abarth" so each morning, when I park, and on speaker phone it asks me, "Do you want to park your Grey Fiat 500 at location......". Poor Milo.  :thumbd:
He's here, he's here, he's here....... :-)

Just out of interest but how does the lone worker device work. Probably something were going to have to consider as we head down the 'agile worker' route.

It looks like a slightly thicker pass card holder but it has a cellphone chip, gps and motion detectors in it. If I press a button on the back they know where I am and record what is going on and presumably send help rather than have a good laugh. It also allows you to talk to the operator and can detect man-down i.e. no movement.

It's a little bit overkill for what I do, as I don't do a lot of visits or clinics alone, but it's ideal for some staff whose job does put them at risk a lot.

And yes it is potentially an anti skiving control as I guess they can track me, but not really a problem for me.

Most people know it's a Fiat anyway, lets face it, it's not a million miles away from a bog standard 500 looks wise. To be honest my Fiat 500 1.4 Sport was more reliable than the Abarth, so there you go ;)

Had an argument on the FF as regards to this. They were adamant that it was a Fiat, i was fully accepting the fact that is was a Fiat, but branded an Abarth, however the point i was trying to get across to them is that Fiat market Abarth as a separate brand, with it's own design team, head quarters, workshop, UK dealer network etc. They just didn't get that bit at all
