Insurance Premiums
« on: February 17, 2010, 05:14:09 PM »
Anyone experienced a rise in their A500 premium on renewal?

Although I had another year's no claims, without changing any other element of the policy, it went up by about 30%.

I am trying to understand whether it is car specific, or a change in their risk policy for my work/age group or postcode.

Yeah my renewal has gone up with Elephant.

Have since looked around and found much cheaper quotes (Aviva/Admiral) so will probably change insurer if they can't match them.

Just got my renewal through the post, it's up from last year despite an extra years NCD, and the premium they quoted me was before I've even added my 3 points! What the hell is going on?

I read that all car insurance premiums have risen 27% this year due to the state of the economy. Seems like a lame excuse to take money off us all tbh...

Just renewed my insurance, gone up to £715, despite an extra years NCD (3 years total). Ah well, can't be avoided really. Please note: Adding both my parents on saved me £250!  :o (adding my 19 year old brother on increased it to £1800, not this year bro sorry...)

I found that with mine as well. Put my mum on it and said she had another car to drive (which she does) dropped it a few hundred pounds.

I heard the price increases were due to so many accidents this winter  :thumbd:

I wonder if the new 50? grouping system has caused the A500 to be readjusted?

By the way does anyone know what group the np A500 is in?

i recently did a renewal quote and got it down quite a bit.....

a few words of advice,

NEVER EVER accept a renewal quote.... they always stick it up from my experiance.

shop around! be prepaired to do 10 or more quotes online, spend a day at it if you have to, 100 quid in my pockets is better than in there thiefting pockets.

go direct to the companys NEVER use comparison websites, you will pay more as they charge commision.

and last but not least do a bit of research.... companys are often part of other companys for example bell, elephant and a another one thats seems to have escaped me are part of the same company. play them off against one another.... for example i got a renewal quote from elephant last setember, they added over 100 quid onto it. i went to bell got it down below what i paid the year before, phoned elephant told them what i had got and they will match it.... they can even bring up the bell quote on there system.....

well rant over. ;)

Admiral are cheapest for me for this reason: They only ask if I've made any claims or had any accidents in the past 3 years, all the others ask "in the last 5 years" i wrote a car off in 2006 which i have to declare on most policies, but not Admiral as it was 4 years ago!

Or get old and not be able to be arsed because the time taken to do this isn't worth the sort of reduction you can get on a £200 quote and the cheapest will have crap terms.
