Leather vs Sabelt Seats & Prices
« on: January 02, 2012, 06:15:04 PM »
Hi guys, got both sets of leather seats and alcantara Sabelts (which are currently fitted). Looking at selling one set, but not sure which. General consensus seems to be everyone eventually looks at going for the Sabelts - and they fit my body shape perfectly, but I'm concerned about the wear on them if 'larger' passengers use them regularly. I think the leathers would hold up better as they appear a bit more spacious in regards to width allowance for ass/legs.

Also, what kind of prices would you be looking at for a second hand set of each? I'll go by what mine have, approx. 7-8k miles of wear on the leather and 2-3k on the Sabelts. The leather also has one tear/cut of like 0.5cm (attached 2 pics of them), original owner said it could be sorted for £10-15, but haven't had the chance to inquire anywhere yet!

Any help/opinions would be appreciated, cheers guys :thumb:

I've got both Sabelts and leathers as well. If I were to sell my leather seats I'd be looking for at least £800. The repair cost sounds right for the size of the tear. When you decide which to sell, please use the classifieds section  :thumb:

repair is the best option, a new seat base cover is over 500 quid :thumbd:

Didn't realise they'd be worth that much used! And that's a hefty price for a new seat base, ouch :-\.

Can you buy the original leathers separately or are they just an option when buying from new? And are the Sabelts and leathers both interchangable between AGP, 500, Evo - or are they different fittings/sliders?

The leather seats were only available from new.

AGP / APE no problem. Pretty sure the 500 has different sliders.

The leather is creasing up on mine as I'm quite large and not very agile, so they take a battering, still its not bad and they haven't scuffed or worn anywhere yet. Tyhat tear can be sorted with a smart repair.

If I had sabelts they would need to break in a bit  :-[ ;D still I found then comfy but reckon they would wear quicker for me as they have no give and as I wear denim a lot it would be them or my trousers, typically the seats give up first before my clothes but a retrim isn't too costly in comparison to those seat base prices.

The bigger thing to concern yourself with for the larger person is whether the seat internals itself will hold up to abuse.

:o Thought that would be the price to get both seats recovered! That's insane......... :thumbd:

@Sandys, hoping the internals to the seat will be fine. Sounds like both will do the job really, might look at complete re-trim prices for both sets of seats before deciding which to sell. :thumb:
