Lowering a standard Abarth seat
« on: January 21, 2012, 11:40:42 PM »
I have managed to lower my Abarth seats Horah. Firstly I bought a second set rather than damage my existing seats.

I have had to take off the seat memeory wires that let you pull the seat forward to let people in the back, it stills works but you just have to reset your possition afterwards.

I firstly took off the seat pad, easy to do, couple of bolts.

I also took off the seat height handle as I leave the seat permanently lowered (Im 6' long waisted) and the way Ive lowered it lowers the front as well as the back so you are sitting lower in the car.

I had to get a friend in a body shop to cut the metal bar that is the mechanism for lowering, if anyone wants pictures I can supply by email.

I also drilled two new holes in each side of the seat to allow the seat mounting bar to sit lower.

I would not recomment any of this to anyone on their seats without buying a seat as its better to sell your car standard.

Anyway, if you have questions ask away.

Oh on the question of airbags, always disconnect the battery (insert cardboard in between the terminals so no chance of connection) for more than 30 mins before working on them, seats included and dont reconnect until you are totally finished.

Seat is just as solid, so in an accident it wont fall apart, used all the standard parts, just lowered the bar that controls seat height, same bolts. In effect it has lowered the front of the seat about 2 or 3cm, just enough to make it comfortable. I can not imagine it would effect anti submarining as the seat is lower at the back. Also it doesnt effect the comfort of the back of the seat as the back of the seat is pretty standard lowest setting. Im not promoting anyone to do this and I did tell my insurance company and it made no difference, just noted on policy as a modification. The only real problem is I had to relocate the sub, junked it and bought a pioneer one and that actually sounds better than the original because you can turn the base to your own requirements. I will get pics on here as soon as I can but had operation on arm, cant lift.

Also plastic side panels to seats need trimming with a stanley to make a nice finish. If youre really fussy you can put the handle back but the hole doesnt show.
