Maybe they do  And how often do you see that in Scotland? Only at weddings, if they're good ones anyways ;)

I went to the worst wedding ever in Dingwall Castle. The food wasnt fit for human consumption and as for that weird Scottish dancing...I'd have felt more comfortable watching synchronised incest :thumb:

But I did get so drunk that I could speak, which some would say is a huge benefit to the nation.

Page 145 of the A500 manual states that the car produces 135bhp @ 5500rpm in both normal and sport mode and the following torque,

Normal mode: 180Nm @ 4500rpm
Sport mode: 206Nm @ 3000rpm

The esseesse (taken from page 10 of the owners supplement manual) produces 160bhp @ 5500rpm in both modes and the following torque,

Normal mode: 206Nm @ 2000rpm
Sport mode: 230Nm @ 3000rpm

So in normal mode the esseesse is producing the same torque as the standard A500 does in sport mode, however the torque comes in earlier in the esseesse (2000rpm vs 3000rpm in the standard car), when you also take into account the extra 25bhp in the esseesse it is clearly going to be faster than the standard car albeit with the lighter steering.

MP, I think you're forgetting that the power developed is proprtional to torque x revs, so although the SS Normal mode has the same peak torque, the fact that it "comes in earlier" means less power is developed.  It's much more about how the torque curve is engineered across the rev range.  FWIW, I don't think an SS in Normal will beat an NP in sport.

Don't forget, there thould be a G-Tech S chip on that runway too   ;)

Needsmust....the voice of reason ;D

For the record, I'm currently in possession of a car that an A500SS in non-sport mode could actually out run. The Thames Fiat courtesy Punto. I can't believe any sane person would buy one of these (or drive an A500 in non-sport mode).  :thumb: I feel like my soul has been plucked out with burning hot tongs

Haha, the problem you had was going to Dingwall for a wedding... Dingwall for anything = bad times

I think the Hamster sums it up for me... :thumb:

The most annoying thing for me with my A500 in normal mode is not the slackened engine response (when dawdling around town, or cruising on the motorway I can live with that) it's the steering. I have to be honest and say that the steering is the thing that lets the A500 down a bit. At least there is some resistance in sport mode. In normal mode you don't have a clue what's going on up front! I wish you could alter the settings and have normal engine response with sport steering!

I use my button every time i fancy a quick squirt of power/fun but mostly I am driving the 15 miles to and from work so its normally weekends at the moment until the spring arrives, plus I have only had the car three weeks and all it has known is snow so far.

Also the missus has made a point of saying everytime I push the button "are you racing someone or think of the mpg" my reply to her normally ends in "off!!!!!"

I wish the sport button was mounted on the steering wheel then the daft tart wouldn't know if it was on or not. lol!!!

Only kidding I love her really!!!!!  ;)

Bit of a gimmic as the car would have been fine outta the box just in sport mode tbh but there you go
