Undersealing?
« on: January 08, 2012, 08:03:31 PM »
Just wondered if anyone has had their Abarth or any car for that matter undersealed? What you paid and where abouts you had it done would be really useful!

Cheers peeps. :thumb:

Cars don't need owners to underseal them. The factory applies underseal and also wheel arch liners to the vunerable parts.

I was under the impression that after around 3 years the factory applied underseal starts to crack/peel and allow water to seep in and was just wondering if it's best to have the original removed and to get new underseal applied?

Cars don't tend to rust, it is their electronic systems that consign them to the scrap heap. Have a look around, only really old cars are rusty.

It is worth undersealing any areas that are exposed bare metal.

The jacking points on Carmen have had the protective coating scratched off where she has been lifted poorly in the past.

Hope you're not referring to the 'new' ka ;D

IMHO I think you guys need to read up a bit on rust and rustproofing.  I have had my car done with Tuff Kote Dinol.  Tectyl is also used a lot in Scandinavia.  But, the conditions may be a bit worse here with salt sludge on the roads for 5 months straight.  Even 2-3 year old cars rust..

I paid about 500£ for the job on mine Probably would be half that in the UK.   All plastic panels on the underbody is removed.  The cars underside is washed and dried.  Then a creeping fluid is applied inside all panels and a thicker protectant applied on all other parts.  They have special spray sheets for most cars. They used 1 and a half day on mine.

An example sheet here: http://www.corrosafe.no/Webdesk/documents/corrosafe+hoved/Senterkjeden/Spr%C3%B8yte+diagram.pdf
