Blow off mod (how to) inc's sizes and whats needed
« on: December 04, 2011, 10:56:37 PM »
Just done this to night after waiting for 9 days for demon tweeks to send me the filter and bung (more on this later)

any how

what you need is
28mm OD bung
28mm ID filter (pipercross is perfect, part number is MPX1011) < to get cheep read below 04/12/2011
28mm ID tubing
and some hose clamps

first things first, on the AGP the engine cover and other bits are in the way for most filters and you need a decent sized filter or the it will restrict the dump valve and cause more lag than the standard system.

so i decided to go for a forge item although was skeptical about its size so ordered item (FORFMIL28) from tweeks and to cut a long story short they sent me a piper cross moped filter instead thats much bigger in size but has the same 28mm neck and its element is entirely made out of  foam so fits round all the engine cover parts ext and wont cause any problems with flow.

I paid £10 for the filter and is supposed to be £15+ so order the above part number now if you want one.

The tube sizes on the AGP are 28mm not 25mm like the a500

so you will need a 28mm plug (samco sell them cheep in ally)
ebay is your friend for tube buy ASH tubing get a 45o bend for £5ish and you get more than the straight sections and just cut to size and keep the rest spare.

I removed all the standard tubing and fitted the plug close to turbo inlet and filter straight on top of dump valve.

seems to have reduced the dip a bit at 4k but not a lot, cant feel any other changes.

Just woundering about insurance side of things though :-/

No problem, and insurence shouldn't be an issue as it didn't increase power

I'm doing tests at the moment to see if there's actually any difference

Just to make sure I get this, before embarrassing myself (as I'm not hugely clued up on stuff); basically you've changed from recirculating to VTA (atmospheric), right?

Where's the MAF sensor positioned? Because if it's positioned before the DV and you've changed it from recirculating the air to dumping it, won't the sensor be fueling for more air? Essentially you'll be running rich on shifts? Not 100% but that's what I'd be guessing, unless the TMC box compensates for this some how, but I wouldn't have thought it was possible. ???

Let me know if I'm way off though, 'cause I'm always interested in stuff like this :thumb:

its after the dump valve after the throttle body right near the engine block wheres the dump valve is before the throttle body by the boost pressure sensor

Makes sense then! Looks like a cheap, but decent aesthetic mod, might look into it. :)

this caused any problems? Any performance change and what is the noise like from it? I am very interested into looking into doing this.

no problems so far have taken it of and put back on a few times and done some long journeys and no difference at all in performance the noise is weak on a standard AGP but with the TMC sounds better and is quite loud (can her it with music at high levels )

just dont get a filter to small and you wont have any problems

ss runs more boost
more boost = more noise but wont be far off what mine sounds like as mines TMC'd so running higher boost any way
