Black plastic trim around front bumper
« on: September 12, 2011, 03:45:23 PM »
Does anyone know if the black plastic trim around the front bumper can be replaced? Is it bonded and has it got a part number?

Thanks

Tom

Ah well i might have a problem then.

My car has gone in to get the front bumper resprayed under warranty, and they have done an extreemly bad job! there is a line a clearcoat filling the gap between the paint and the edge of the plastic trim, and it is already starting to peal.

Originally at the factory I would assume the car was sprayed and then the plastic trim added, but what they have done with my car is so obvious surely this is not correct.

To add insult to injury the front bumper was filthy when i picked up the car, all the trim was white with whatever they have been using at the body shop. I complained and they service guy said that its a pretty bad job and that he hadnt look at it in enough detail! (this is after I had asked him if it was good before I set off and drove 50 miles to get there!!!).

Also there are white marks that I cannot get off the black trim and there is a chip of paint missing from where they must of taken the towing cap out and put it back in!

Going back in on saturday for another week, another wasted sat morning.

All in all a pretty rubbish job! Sorry about the rant!

That is rubbish!

Don't settle until it is done to properly - if them doing a poor job means that they have to strip it completely back or buy a new bumper then tough :)

There is no way that I would settle for it.

It's a shame that some of the dealers really dont give us much confindence in the abarth service

It's the same with any marque, and it rarely is the manufacturers fault - you get it with everything.  Good and bad.

To give the dealership some slack, they probably didn't even do the job in-house..  Most dealers I ship things like this out due to the cost and time taken in running a paint shop

Let us know how you get on though! :)

I place the ball firmly in the dealers court in this instance, no they didnt do it in house, but they told me it was a very good job and let me drive 50 miles and see it, and when i told them my thoughts, they said it is a (& i quote) "bit of a sh*t" job! And that they didnt look at it in much detail. I mean the bumper came back more damaged than when it went in!

And to be honest, it usually takes 2 or 3 trips for them to get the job done to a satisfactory standard! Theres no way its all coincidental.

The car goes in again 2moro, lets see what happens.
