Gpa Alarm systems available?
« on: February 04, 2010, 09:50:09 AM »
Hi guys,

Well last night i was reading the 'Grande Punto Abarth insurance' thread which is a sticky above. And to my horror i found out that the abarth gpa does not have an alarm system.

I know that I should of checked at the time of buying but I just kind of assumed that it had one. I have called my insurance and made them aware of this and they have changed my policy document to just engine immobilisor.

Anyway what im asking is has anyone had an alarm system fitted? And if so which one did you go for?

Thanks for info guys.

Tom

i would'nt worry about it, cars are 'unstealable' now a days, if the alarm has gone off then chances are the window has already been smashed and the theives have already got away.

i was suprised it didnt have one, but maybe thats how they keep the price so reasonable for what you get...

Well I just got off the phone from SG Petch in york where i bought the car from and they have told me that the abarth does come with a basic alarm which uses your car horn.

I also asked them about what it says on page 11 in the manual - "The car alarm is available at Lineaccessori Abarth" Does that mean an upgraded alarm could be added if we want it? They said that they area going to speak to the abarth sales man to see if he can clear this up.

So hopefully will know by the end of the day.

Did you get this alarm from a abarth dealer? And if so how much did it cost?

I have been advised that the Clifford 330X Thatcham Cat 2-1 Upgrade OEM Alarm is a good one to upgrade to as it uses the same key fob aswell.

Are you sure about this?

Realy which one have you got?

I finaly made contact with abarth cs and they have confirmed that the gpa in the uk does not come with any form of alarm, only the engine immobiliser.
He has also told me that there are bi xenon lights available for the 500A, and hopefully there might be an exhaust comming out for the gpa but that is not confirmed yet.

The guy in the phone seemed very nice and couldnt help you enough! was very suprised!

There is no factory fit alarm on any Abarth model.  Your dealer can, however, fit the standard Fiat accessory alarm, and a few people have had this done.

Xenons have been a factory option on the 500 since last year.  Monza exhaust for the GPA has been 'coming' for ages.  No-one's holding their breath, though.

Quick update: SG Petch in york have called me and said it will be tomorow when they give me an answer about having an alarm system fitted, as they have not done one before and have had to ask the abarth rep about it.
They also told me again that the car does come with a perimeter alarm, and that the abarth rep has said this to them also. Although i have told him that Bauer Millets and Abarth CS have both said that it does not come with one. So there still seems to be some confusion about it! lol

I have also had a quote for a Clifford alarm to be installed, it is the 'Clifford 330x' and it utilises the existing fiat key fob which is good. The price including fitting is £249 and if i want to add tilt and motion sensors he says he can do it for £300. What do you guys think to the price?

Just want to make sure this does not develop, but the GPA does not (and never has) come with an alarm from the factory.

If they've told you this and you've subsequently bought a car from them, get them to attempt to demonstrate the alarm to you.  When they fail to do so, insist they fit the Fiat accessory alarm at their expense.

That is a brilliant Idea. I will ask them this tommorow.
