Had a shunt!
« on: December 13, 2011, 09:08:26 PM »
Had an accident tonight on A33 from Reading towards Basingstoke. An absolute idiot was stationary with hazards on slow lane on dual carriageway on a half-blind bend under the flyover. Luckily I was doing only 60 as I know about that half-blind bend and how hard its to see far in front. Had to brake very hard to avoid hitting the moron, who then turned the car on and fled. I didn't make the car or the reg number as I was a bit shaken. ABS saved the day and I managed not to plow into him. Not so lucky from the behing as the girl in T-reg Punto didn't stop in time and hit me. Luckily she was perfectly fine. Imagine, no air bags and no ABS - like driving in a coffin! I think her car is a goner but hoping mine is not as I managed to drive it home. The rear bumper poped out and the hatch is a bit bent but boot still works! I just wish I got the b****rds reg no!

Hope you are ok.  Sure the car will be fine given what you describe.  Shame you didn't get his reg but, being heartless for a moment, she sounds as though she is responsible for your damage anyhow and, hoping she is insured, it ought to get sorted quickly.  :thumb:

glad youre ok, i was very lucky to escape having  "driven through" an accident involving 3 other vehicles , on the way to work on m25/a20 slip road, saw it unfold about 2 car lengths in front , 50mph appx. van t -boned a 206, other car sideways. i braked hard (thank heavens for A B S ) ! zig-zag'd left/right , power on , and was back on m25 , was over in less than 2 seconds , but i saw it as if it were in slow motion .... only afterwards did it scare me s--tless ! Very lucky indeed. hope you get the car fixed up quickly. and be safe.

Sorry to hear this... makes you think that the parked numpty was probably on his mobile or something rather than broken down. What a git.

Hope all works out for you... No time is a good time, but right in front of Christmas is an utter ballache :(

I am glad to hear you are OK, I take it there were no witnesses that stopped that also saw the car.

I've been to the Accident repair centre this morning. So far I can't fault Fiat Accident Aftercare - they've been very quick. Maybe if the situation wasn't so clear cut it might have been a different story... Anyway, the guy took some pictures and said that the car will need new bumper, new tailgate, bumper clip rail. Didn't mention the bumper lights loom but at that is not working it might be included as well. They will call once they got the parts. Will keep you posted...Here is the pic

sorry to hear the bad news, did you report it to the police? maybe they have cctv of the car that fled? is that a crime to create an obstacle on a highway, create and accident and then flee the scene?
