Interior heater fan resistor
« on: November 21, 2011, 12:59:42 PM »
I need to replace the heater fan resistor which is in the passenger footwell under the dash. A five wire multi plug is connected. That comes out easily, leaving the resistor in place connected to the white plastic ducting.

Can anyone advise on how this comes out as it is jammed solid. There is a "paddle" on the side of it which looks like you press it as a lever to get it out but it wont budge. Am I missing something here?

Help!

Thanks in advance...

Done it!

With the aid of a face mirror!

There are two "paddles" or levers sited diagonally at each end of the resistor (second one hidden by the duct flange moulding, which I couldn't see). Squeeze together and resistor slides back and out. :thumb:

The only way to get to the multiplugs that connect to the resistor and the fan motor is laying on your back in the foot well.

Turned out nothing wrong with fan or resistor when bench tested. Just loose multiplugs from regular passenger kicking.

What cretin at FIAT decided to put two fragile plugs where passenger feet go, with no protection?

::)

Anyway all working now.  ;D

I wonder how much a dealer would have charged for a new fan and resistor?  ::)

Or they may just tell you to stop people kicking the footwell and charge you an hours labour for fixing it  ::)
