Normal or super unleaded???
« on: July 28, 2009, 10:45:21 PM »
Hi people

Was just wondering whether people use normal or super unleaded in their AGP and what the benefits of super unleaded are if any?

i have never noticed any difference, either performance or ecoomy from regular or V Power... save that extra 10p a litre!!! doubt there may be but it will be so ignsignificant...

However, my Smart Roadster wich is tuned a (little) does do better on V power. gets about another 20 miles out a tank! Odd but there you go..

I never noticed any difference when i tried the Shell V-Power.

But I read somewhere a test which was done over 4500 miles using two identical cars and 99ron fuel gave more power and saved £171 over the 95ron over this distance.

im no mathematician but you would need to be getting about another 100 miles out a tank to make this saving?? Either I cant add or....

You can only really benefit from the extra octanes if your engine is built to run at a higher compression, so either you need it or you don't. Putting it in the tank when you don't need it is a bit wasteful but on the other hand it *is* better for your engine.

In either of the current Abarth's that means ordinary premium is fine.
My other roadcar on the otherhand *had* to have at least 97 octane fuel or it damages the combustion chamber.

If you get your engine remapped to handle some extra boost then the super unleaded would actually start to be useful
