Overredline
« on: July 25, 2009, 12:34:08 AM »
Greetings. A little while ago, while I was in 3rd gear, I had to change to 4th, and I accidentaly missed an changed to 2nd gear and the I hit 8000 RPM! :( Will this cause problems to my engine? Also, will I still be able to install the esseesse kit? Please help. Thanks in advance.

With the ss kit I'm sure it can't hit the rev limiter for a certain amount of time overal and I assume you changed gear immediately and not hit the limiter any other time so think your fine with regards to the ss kit.

I think the engine will be ok I think it's if you do it all the time which would cause problems to the engine and various other parts I've made mistakes in which i feel it must of damaged the engine/clutch/gears etc and had no problems but some other more knowledgable people may say otherwise feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.
But we all still worry though as £14000+ spent on a car is alot of money and would not want any problems with it or to occur.

AGP scorpian black, custom quad exhaust, carbon fibre wrapped bonnet, spoiler and centre console, forge intercooler, induction kit, boost hoses,TMC tuned, eibach sportlines.

When they check the limiter, will they see 8000 RPM, or will it just show them that the limiter got touched?

isnt the limiter well before 8k rmp!?!?! the red line is at 6.5k which is what i presume is the limiter....

if im honest with you mate you shouldnt worry anyway, that engine is designed to take 8k rev's, it would take more to be honest but manufactorers tone it dont is doing it constantly will cause problems.

Yes. The redline is 6500 RPM. The good thing is that I instantly stopped it once I hit 8000 RPM. It freaked me out when it hit that many RPM at once. I will now have to check for thge authorisation from Turin for the esseesse kit. That's my biggest fear. :(

Rev limiters only prevent over-revving during power application - they can't stop the momentum of the car pushing the engine through the limiter with a missed gear change.

As long as you haven't recorded 60 secs of over-rev activity, your esseesse authorisation should be fine.

OK. Normally, the rev limiter is 6500 RPM. I don't suppose it's "broken" now, right? Anyhow, regarding authorisation from Turin, do they view how many RPMs I have done, or just the limiter? I mean, now that I hit 8000 RPM, will they see it that I hit 8000 RPM, or will they see that I just hit the limiter?

Check this thread out from the past it gives the details that an Abarth tech had http://www.abarthforum.co.uk/index.php/topic,44.0.html would imply time over reving not amount

The report will just show that the car has been over revved and for how long.
I shouldn't worry, there is very little chance you have done any damage if the car is still running properly now.

Would it be best if I took the car to a mechanic?

Can the gears get affected by this?

The only people who would be able to tell anything are an Abarth technician with the examiner system.
If you are that worried then get it checked.

Yes. I will do that. Anyhow, will the 8000 revs be counted as overrevs?

I would assume so it will show up when they check and how long it has been over reved which would go towards the 60 second limit for ss kit.

Anything which would hit the rev limiter or over would be counted as over rev.

If you are getting it checked out you would be able to see if you are still OK for the ss kit which you should be.

I'll book an appointment to get it's motor checked. By the way, can the car get checked twice for the esseesse kit authorisation?
