Rattling Door locks
« on: September 03, 2011, 11:24:24 AM »
I know a lot of us on here are suffering from the door locks rattling when going over bumps etc, even after having replacements fitted, given time, they start rattling again. It's a problem I don't think will ever be solved.  :thumbd:

However, greasing the door locks does help for a brief amount of time, and seems to be the better option now as my warranty has run out. So what I need to know is what grease do I need and where do I need to apply it?

Ask the Dealer to have Abarth look into it too. I did this with my squealing brakes. It's under investigation now at Abarth Italy....

Nope. Needs a monthly grease not a weekly grease. Lol.  :thumbd:

As my warranty has run out I won't be able to have any more warranty work done, but seen as this problem hasn't been solved then I have a case for them taking it back in until the problem is fixed, and not remedied. Come on FIAT/ ABARTH, it's just a bloomin door lock. Why can't you fix it properly!!!!

Update on my replacements. Had right hand latch replaced 2 weeks ago which isn't perfect, but better. The left one I had replaced last year has started clacking again now.

Can we write a group letter of complaint to ABARTH HQ asking them to address this well known, very irritating problem?

EDIT: Thanks Kim/Antony for the advice  :thumb:

Gonna get some lovely thick grease and rub it into every crevice I can squeeze my fingers into

Can the same be done for the shock top mounts and dampers.  I've forgotten how many replacements I've had so far.

Just be careful you don't get your fingers stuck  :P. A spray might be better just depends what you can get hold of  :thumb:

Oh hell yes. Squeaky brakes are ridiculous. EBC say they provide 'FREE' shims if your brakes squeak when you buy a new set of pads.

Too late. I'm typing this with one hand stood-up. And I don't know what my other hand has hold of, but it hurts when I squeeze it :(

EDIT:

From EBC website

NOISE - Light whistling/squeaking (at walking pace)
This noise usually happens as the vehicle is coming to rest and is again typical of a pad that is just bedding in or has been under used. Again the remedy is to allow a few hundred miles for the pads to properly seat and have 100% contact surface against the disc. If the problem occurs intermittently, one good cure is to use the brake severely every day now and again on a safe secluded low traffic piece of road to "de-glaze" the surface of the brake pad. Obviously extreme caution must be used when recommending this to customers, especially with regard to the low traffic aspect. If the problem occurs continuously and the pad was not fitted with shims on the rear of the steel backing plate, call EBC for a free set of anti-squeal shims, which can be fitted by your local dealer. As this type of incident is usually vehicle specific EBC do not normally undertake to absorb the fitting charges for applying the shims but will issue the shims themselves free of charge.

That's one thing I've never had a problem with.  My brakes don't squeak at all.
They were bedded in correctly, right?
