Sideskirt coming away.
« on: October 06, 2010, 06:04:02 PM »
Has anyone else had this problem??
I`ve had the drivers side skirt replaced by my dealer a few months back as it was peeling away from the body. Problem is the new one is doing exactly the same again >:(
The dealer had my car since friday to fix the problem again but when i went to collect it earlier the job was poor at best!  The body shop they used has basically plastered black mastic everywhere he could see a gap and its already coming away AGAIN.
Having spoken to the service guys they say that as the car 18months old, FIAT are refusing to pay for the repairs and so the garage are going to try and cover the costs? Fair play to the garage for doing this but surely as the car is still in Warranty, Fiat/Abarth should sort this properly rather than send my car to a body shop that may not know what they are doing (as the previous reapair has shown).

attempting to repair it is where they're going wrong, needs ripping off and a new one fitting. the part is produced with the adhesive already applied.

not having any issues getting warranty work agreed on my 18 month old car

when you say fiat do you mean that or abarth. wondered if dealer is applying fiat warranty terms by mistake :thumb:

When I had mine done it was completely removed and replaced with a new side skirt my car was also 18 months old when I got the work done no problems at all and all done under warranty.

They should replace the side skirt again til it's perfect.

The first time it was replaced totally, as you said Lloyd the adhesive comes already applied so has to be done. Yhis time all they`ve done is take it to a body shop by the looks of it and they`ve just filled it with crap!!
Complained to them and they basically said that as the car was 18months old then Fiat (i`m assuming they mean Abarth though/they surely can`t be as stupid as they seem) won`t cover the repair. It`s going back in on wednesday next week so we shall see what they try this time.
Cheers

They should sort it out, no question, particularly as their first repair was clearly substandard.

If they keep giving you this rubbish about not being covered under warranty, come back to us, and we'll see if we can make a few calls.

They are having the car back on wednesday and thursday but i`m sure its just going back to the same body shop and gonna try and repair it again. I`ll update when i get it back and see what they`ve done.

Cheers for the advice :thumb:

Just a quick update.

Took the car back in yesterday but didn`t end up leaving it with the as all that was going to be done was to have it filled again :thumbd:
So i spoke to Steve the service manager and he`s taken a few photos to send off to Abarth as he has also agreed that pretty much all the way around the car there are problems with the trim.  Hopefully it will all get replaced ASAP and all problems solved :thumb:  Fingers crossed anyway.

so.. up to this point has the service manager not been involved and have abarth not previously been notified ???

mine are showing early signs of movement, if it gets no worse i will live with it but if it does the dealer has said they would send photos to abarth.

seems someone has been fobbing you off instaead of dealing with the issue :thumbd:

He was involved initially and this is the first time i`ve actually seen him in the last 2/3 visits.
When it went in last week i was under the impression that they were replacing the skirt again but apparently not.  By the sounds of todays conversation they were lying about getting Abarth involved up until this point and tried to deal with the issue from their end.

Good luck with yours Lloyd, i hope you get more luck than me.

Looking at that it`l probably need replacing but if my experience is anything to go by then it`l be glued back on.  I`d take it in and see what they say.

Oh, after 2 1/2 months of not hearing anything from the dealer I contacted them 2 weeks ago........Looks like they are going to replace the entire trim kit on my car:) Lets hope it happens.

just to let you know ashley, took it to platts and they immediatly said it needs replacing.they ordered me a new side skirt and il go and take it in march time to get it swapped over.maby you should mention that im getting mine  replaced straight away and demand answers or compensation on why yours was just rebonded back on.platts told me bonding it on will just come off again.so i dont understand why they didnt give you the same answer.
