The facelifted GP
« on: July 28, 2009, 09:03:29 PM »

I believe they have ruined the GPs looks with this hideous new facelift on the front end,

Shame Abarth are going to have to work with this...

http://www.italiaspeed.com/2009/cars/fiat/07/grande_punto_facelift/2807.html

Even in the review it slates it...

'reworking the front end the designers at Fiat Centro Stile have ditched the outgoing model's stylish Italian-esque feel, instead choosing to copy the current market fashion for more aggressive front ends and in particular they have modelled it very closely on Ford's new Fiesta.'

fiat facelifts never seem to work, look at the mk2 punto when it went bug eyed, and the barchetta went wrong and the rest...

The positive aspect of this facelift is that very few existing GPA owners will be queueing to change. Unless of course Fiat decide to give the GPA its own new front end when it gets the bigger engine.

The facelift barchetta was an improvement on the original imo. Only slightly biased though. The original looked better with the Riviera spoiler which filled out the lower edge of the grill nicely. I preferred the third light as well.

surely a mistake, the original barchetta without the brake light was better, didn,t realise yours was a facelift ;)

Front is OK, interior is much improved, those rear lights are awful, would prefer it without the clear lenses.

Off-topic, GP Abarth will get a new engine? How many HP will it have? Will an esseesse version be available also?

There hasn't been anything concrete yet, speculation that a revised 1.4 with the multi-air system (note mentioned in the article a 135 Tb 1.4 replacing assumedly the 120bhp current version) so with a simlar jump might be 175ish. Also frantic wet dreams from some people about a mythcal 1.8tb but I wouldn't get into a breath holding contest for that as the Mito GTA it was originally scheduled for is up in the air atm.

I would suspect the former option eventually but nothing has been announced that I've seen so I wouldn't get too excited.

The two rumours I've heard are that the next version of the GPA is going to be fitted with a normally-aspirated diesel and that, in an attempt to improve build quality, it's going to be assembled in the former Dacia factory in Romania.
