Warning Low Fuel
« on: May 15, 2011, 09:52:27 PM »
Hey guys, not sure if this is a problem at all,

Have around half a tank of petrol (according to gauge), When I start the car is beeping and saying 'Warning Low Fuel'.. now I've seen this before when my gauge is low.. but when its reading 1/2 a tank?!

So, my question is, does anyone else get this, should I trust the gauge?

Ive tried resetting the trip, made no difference..

that sounds a strange one.... maybe a little glitch? have you turned car off and back on again?

the only other thing i could sugest is have you been on a track day? i know i did like 40-50 mile on the track and it drank fuel like a fish.

it seems to work on your driving style the low fuel gauge so if your giving it the beans it can tell you low fuel quite a bit before the red line.

Could just be a fuel lock/pressure related glitch. I'm sure there's fuel in it. Rock the car and have a listen to see if you can hear fuel sloshing around  :thumb:

Hummmmmm

sounds much like the fuel gauge in my 156, and that on my previous Alfa 33 and that on my previous Fiat 128's

maybe it is one of those Italian Car "characteristics"

You could get it changed under warranty (if you have any left) or if it is like mine it will go away and re-surface occasionally

The standard Fiat Grande Punto does odd things like this when the battery is on it's way out.  My old Sporting randomly threw a Low Fuel and Low Coolant error when the battery was on its last legs...

Suggest you get a battery tester and see what the results are! :)

Its in again on Thursday due to some other issues... so will mention it.

Squealing brakes (again)
Car still isn't boosting right (had a new boost control valve and turbo)

Starting to annoy me now... will give the garage another go, failing that ill call Abarth UK...

repeating what's already been said, my guess is that the lockable fuel cap isn't sealing properly... this has happened to me on my (3 and a half year old) GPA.  Locking the fuel cap carefully has brought the fuel gauge back to reality :-0)  Good luck.
