Totally agree,if you want style and performance, and bigger boot space then it's gotta be the agp,but the choice is yours, either way you won't be dissapointed Thumb Up

Anybody going to defend the A500? It's being ganged up on here!

If pictures are worth 1000 words then check out my car pictures here. That should help you make your mind up! Remember the A500 is based on the original from the 50's, the AGP is just a Punto so there is less of a racing heritage link. The A500 is quicker too and you can get red leather, very Italian Thumb Up

This might be a controversial idea, but heyshunt, if you tell us what you're looking for from a car, we might be able to come up with constructive points, rather than just our usual "mine's best!"

They've each got their own character.  The GPA wins on interior space, and has better controlled suspension.  The 500 has a more cheeky exhaust note and drives a bit more like a terrier.  Despite the GPA's power advantage, real-world performance is probably very similar.  Prices aren't a million miles apart, either.

Yes and also a lot of people seem to live where there are big roads, duel carriageways, motorways etc. For these kinds of roads the GPA makes more sense with it's 6th gear for cruising and added comfort etc. Living in Wales, the roads are smaller, streets are narrow and the back roads are very twisty, so the A500 suits these roads more! The A500 would be better suited to a city too obviously.

Is being based on something from the 50's really a good selling point is 2010? and a 500's got more in common with a ford Ka that the original 500

Yes because retro things are coming back, look around you Wink And the fact that Ford are using the design too shows how popular it is.

I had the same problem A500 or GPA   Huh?

1,I wanted something fun/put a smile on my face.  Both cars were fun to drive but somehow i couldnt stop smiling when i sat in the 500  Grin

2,Car that was also unusual. Lots of F500's and Punto's round here but ive yet to see either in Abarth form near me.  Cool

3,Would be actually worth something in 3yrs time. The A500 has a lower list price but retains more value over 3yrs  Thumb Up

4,More practical than my Spider. The punto wins hands down here ...but im coming from a 2 seater with a small boot so even the A500 has more space than what im used too  Undecided

5,I want to personalise my car. The wider choice of colours and options made the A500 more appealing  Wink

6,Esseesse. If i choose to SS my car its a lot cheaper with the A500  Smiley

These were the reasons i chose the A500 and im sure its way many more A500 are sold than GPA (so if you want the rarer car choose GPA) but everyone is different so at the end of the day its you who has to live with car , so only you can make that final decision Smiley

Hope this helps  Wave

Basically you are doing the right thing - test drive both of them. Try to get a decent length of test drive and take them both through town, on A roads, country lanes and a motorway if this is possible (I managed it out of Research in Nuneaton). I suspect you'll know once you've driven them both.

The AGP is certainly more practical if you carry adult passengers or a lot of luggage (do you go away with your car or need to pick stuff up a lot for instance). But the A500 has a quite reasonable boot if there is one or two of you.

Don't forget there is the choice of a red A500!

Sorry guys I know I always post this photo - but it's sooooooo shiny.

Hi. I walked straight past the Punto & went straight to the 500essesse. So much fun & brings smiles from other roasd users. Arnold Clark in Sprinburn have Abarths sitting & can do upgrade for £2450 to Esseesse. I Brought mine home & took friends out & he has bought one following day for his wife - but she never gets near it!!

Which ever you go for you will love. I went from a big luxury saloon & dont miss it, only regret that I had changed sooner.

All the best & enjoy your choice whichever way you go.

Agreed. Your only going to get a A500 owner tell you to go for A500 and likewise with the AGP owners...otherwise someones bought the wrong car.

Sod practicality though. I've got the other half and 2 mini me's to sqeeze in mine and I still chose the A500 because it's the one I wanted, but we're fortunate enough to have a second car. Just make sure it's the car you want!

Book a test drive and tell us what you think is best.......then the opposition whichever, it is can tell you why your wrong  Thumb Up
