Hello chaps/chapp-esseesse's
« on: July 05, 2010, 11:38:21 AM »
Good morning all,
I have just been certified (some may say I should be!) and so this is my first post.
Went to Goodwood on Friday, walked throught the 'Nissen Hut' and fell in love.
I must be quite mad, I am considering moving down in size from an 09 reg Saab 9-3 convertible to the gorgeous red beast on show at G/wood. ( the A500c on the Abarth stand for those unfortunate enough not to have got to G/wood)
Test driving a tin top tomorrow at Westover in Poole. I note from the forum that there are already 'C's' available as demos elsewhere, Wonder why Westover does not have theirs yet.
Anyway, A bit about me.
64 retired, have owned 62 cars (petrolhead-Moi??) but never anything from the land of the Spaghetti tree (sorry showing my age again! the older members will know what I'm talking about.)
2 sons 38 & 39, younger one already on his 24th car which is a supertuned Elise.
Divorced unfortunately and live in Poole.
Any Abarth owners in Poole???
Nice to be with you all.
After my test drive I will probably being bombarding the forum with questions, but until then ciao!

Welcome..... I am waiting on 1st Sept to get my hands on my A500SS

I am chopping in an 09 plate Audi A4 3.0ltr TDI Quatro,,, which on paper is quicker, is certainly far more powerful and some might argue better..... however as it BORES me to sleep and costs a flaming fortune (and another one to keep on the road) I can not wait for my little Italian.

Get ready to sign on the dotted line after you have driven one of these little pocket rockets
A500SS BN White, red mirrors and side stripe, auto air, dipping rear view mirror, parking sensors, White SS alloys, Koni FSD Upgrade,.... Small but Wicked (Oh yeah and it is a Fiat - chance what anybody about says... and I love it all the more for that)

Welcome!

I rented an A500 from Hertz for a weekend earlier in the year, and that was me sold............ had bought my own within the week (well, 24 hrs after returning the rental car, just as several of my friends predicted I would!). Have had the car for a month now, and it is just as wonderful as I thought it would be. I now have a V10 engined Audi (which is still a fantastic car as well, I have to say!) ithat gets a rest at the weekends as the little Abarth becomes the transport of choice!

Goldie, funny you should mention the audi, before the Abarth SS I nearly signed for the new A5 Sportback 3.0 TDI quattro, but since my mileage has dropped alot in recent years decided I just needed a quick little run around and the idea of the Abarth was born, and then once test driven, sold!

The Audi is miles quicker at 6.1 0-60 and obviously top end aswell, but at double the price and also the company car tax a fortune, the abarth was a great choice. Have you got the Monza aswell ?

Even better choice! The A5 sportback nearly made an appearance in our household too. You'll definitely be having more fun now (even if of a slower kind...)

Hello Sting

I know exactly what you are refering to 1 April 1957 Panorama!! Although quite a bit of it was filmed in St Albans (Dan Deyong).

Given you vast number of previous automobiles a posting on this link would be very interesting http://www.abarthforum.co.uk/off-topic/what-cars-have-you-owned/ 62 cars and never owned an Italian car makers product your life is potentially about to go up a gear!

I like a good number have said goodbye to excellent German products (S6 myself) and don't regret it although i have owned italian products in the past as well.

I am chopping in an 09 plate Audi A4 3.0ltr TDI Quatro,,, which on paper is quicker, is certainly far more powerful and some might argue better..... however as it BORES me to sleep and costs a flaming fortune

It is Power to Weight that is the important performance factor and Audi A4 3.0TDi Quattro 124.94 bhp/tonne and consider the weight of the A500 900+ kg with either 135 bhp or 160 bhp and the fun factor is clear to see.

Make sure you try in the test drive with Sport Button Off and On and you will notice the 'elastic' effect that the torque gives you and the TTC button is worth trying on tight roundabaouts. Have an enjoyable test drive then the difficult decessions colour etc come.

Hi

I REALLY wanted an A5 when I got my last car, but as we had a baby on the way that was vetoed as not being sensible... Then within a month of our son arriving it became obvious that the A4 was rubbish as a family car and a Honda CRV arrived outside the house!!

Meaning that the A4 was basically doing less than a 100 miles a week.... And only ever has me in it, so two doors and small was an option again. Started off looking at a TT, then toyed with a BMW 1 or waiting for the A1,,,, but then a week in Italy and a repeat of Top Gear with JC testing an Abarth SS and the idea was formed.
A500SS BN White, red mirrors and side stripe, auto air, dipping rear view mirror, parking sensors, White SS alloys, Koni FSD Upgrade,.... Small but Wicked (Oh yeah and it is a Fiat - chance what anybody about says... and I love it all the more for that)

funny you mention the CRV, wife is now going on about a bigger car since the arrival or Rory. She has the civic which 4 yrs ago was the DB's, but at goodwood we played with the New Mini 4x4, I think a trip down to a mini dealer in sept is on the cards  ;)

Hi Sting!  Were you in the film Dune?  ;D

Your not mad, its only when youve had the big stuff you realise lil cars are the most fun, theres plenty of previous Porsche and other high performance car owners on here now driving Abarths, i only went for a test drive and i bought one on the spot. Enjoy your test drive and remember even if you want it faster you can have it remapped and turbo swapped all the way upto 290bhp if you want  :thumb:
450,000,000 bhp 0-60 in 0.002 secs! Twin spaceshuttle rocket thrusters and NOS. Fully submersible. Fold out wings with vertical take off and landing. Mini bar and disco ball, rear seats removed to fit revolving waterbed. Real Gold and Silver Cosworth zebra stripes. 20 inch wheels.
